I’ve been thinking about doing a chip tuner for my truck. Just don’t know where to start. I am looking to get better mpg with the 5.7 I force. Open for info! Thanks!

Nope, you are not going to increase power or MPG with any chip or anything. If MPG is a concern, dont lift the truck and keep stock size, standard load tires on it. And of course driving habits have an impact. But with a truck with EPA of 13/17, even a mpg or two improvement is negligible.

The 5.7 is a really old platform at this point, and Toyota pretty well wrung everything out of it. You're best bet for MPG is to not put any corn in it (only run ethanol free fuel of 87 or better octane), low rolling resistance tires in the stock size, and not adding anything to the truck. It's a thirsty engine, but it's reliable.

If you have 4x4 trade you truck in for 2x4 and then a bed cover. I get 18-19 hw with a tail wind. Lol

    Bed covers don't help MPG.

TFL did a test and it improved their Ram by 1-2 mpg.

And Mythbusters did tests that showed the only thing better than the stock tailgate up was a net gate instead. Choose who you will, but I have more faith in MB than TFL. They also did airflow models to show why.

Fair enough. I'd trust MB over TFL also.

Not sure if bullydog works with a 2017 but that would be your best bet. You can talk to Keith from Dirtydeeds about it.

A knowledgeable tuner might be able to get creative leaning the fuel trims out. Truck would probably run noticeably hotter and you could possibly compromise the reliability of the engine.

Toyota should have come out with a 3UR-FKS version of the 5.7 like they did with the 2GR V6 instead of scrapping it. D4-S port and direct injection might have brought the fuel efficiency up a little bit.

Why? It’s a fricking truck, what did you expect, gas mileage is terrible.

If you wanted good gas mileage I would suggest a Corolla.

sounds like spending a few grand,....to save $500 over the course of 10 yrs.
And that's granting that there actually is an improvement and you have the truck that long.

I was doing the math similarly. Quick addition on that list is north of $5K, for a pretty small gain in fuel economy. If you even see one.

That said, the drivability should be greatly improved!

I have a bullydog. I dont think it does anything for mpg, but the truck drives much better. It removes all the hesitation, especially with shifting

I would like the Knight Rider mod.
The side to side red LED strip in the hood bulge and whatever it is that makes the truck jump over stuff.
All other mods are a waste of time.
