Purchased a set of used Morimoto Gen 1 headlights here a few months ago and was told by HR that I needed the DRL relay (2017 SR5 with halogen lights and DRL). Put the relay in and didn’t notice any problems. Hooked up the trailer today and I had no brake lights. Come to find the new morimoto relay wasn’t sending a brake light signal to my trailer, still had brake lights on the truck though. I put the old relay back in (thank god I kept it) and everything works fine, including the headlights and DRL.

Anyone else have similar issues? Wondering if this is a known issue or I just got a lemon. Also, why did I need the relay in the first place?

Did your truck (when stock) have the front turn signal illuminated orange as a running light when it was running?

Same exact problem here. Took me forever to figure it out but I tried to spread the word around here to prevent people from wasting their money. Stock relay works fine. 2015 pro with morimoto gen 1 then gen 2.

When you went from Gen 1 to Gen 2, did you swap the harness? I just swapped mine but used the original harness and noticed that the startup sequence doesn't work. It may be that the Gen 2 uses a different fuse location. We have the Gen 2 on our 4Runner as well and it doesn't work on it either. I did just read that the 4Runner has to have the tap plugged in to the INJ fuse for it to work. It could be the same for the truck. I'll have to see what location each one is plugged into. I didn't worry about it really on either vehicle since it is probably just wear and tear over time.

I wish I had a better answer for you, but the body shop did it so I don't know. Startup sequence meaning when you first turn the vehicles on, right?

Yes. I have to look at my connectors when I get it back from the shop this afternoon because my DRLs aren't on either.

Got it figured out. I had to call HR. The original fuse tap has a 3 amp and a 10 amp fuse. The Gen 2 has two 10 amp fuses. They had me replace the 3 amp with a 10 amp and now it is good to go.

I was just reading this thread and was going to tell you this! The other alternative is that they had a bad run of them somewhat recently as well. Glad you got it dialed.

What was the issue with the bad ones? These were a warranty claim for hazed lenses and they upgraded me to the Gen 2's. I installed them yesterday and had PPF installed today.

The bad ones had some weird things going on, but one of the BIG ones was that it was swapping the turn signal indicators... Push the lever down... RIGHT turn signal!

What the hell. You would think that there wouldn't be issues like that with as many sets of these that are manufactured. :notsure:

Interesting! My passenger side light, the sequential connector function is opposite of the driver's side and what it should be. Connected - no sequential. Disconnected - sequential. No other difference in functionality AFAIK.

Sorry for the old bump here, but just installed some XB gen 2's on my 2016 Pro. I DID NOT install the relay, even though I bought it. Everything is working fine (I had Halogens with amber DRL).

Is the consensus still there is no need to install the Morimoto relay? I am installing the XB LED rears this weekend and if there is no need to open the dash I'd rather not. Any info would be great, thanks.

Anyone happen to know if you can install the Morimoto XB LED headlights (2nd Gen) without the Non-DRL Conversion relay for the 14-20 Toyota Tundra? I have just got my fog lights in and now want to tackle my new headlights but the relay kit is running a few days behind. I'd think this would be fine, and this thread gives me hope that that's the case but thought I'd check anyways in case there were other issues that arose.

    Can anyone confirm?

I had the headlights in only without the relay and it worked fine. But when I installed the Moromoto tails later I got hyper flash. The relay fixed the hyper flash.
