So is this fixed on the 2017s, or no?

I have heard mixed reviews man. I can't comment either way until I am behind the wheel with a trailer.

Likewise, I've heard some saying it's working and others that say it's not. I would certainly recommend some hard testing on roads with little to zero traffic before going down any steep grades or doing cross town driving with a heavy trailer.

Anytime Andrew. With what you ordered, you will be good to go. I actually like a separate brake controller instead of the integrated one. The Ford integrated brake controller is pretty bad ass. You can track mileage on up to 5 trailers, set controller points for each trailer. However, as electronics go, one day it will go bad. I wouldn't want to know what cost would be. Now you have a better controller and will perform flawlessly. Keep us posted on how you like it.

Hello all. So I have had a 5000lbs travel trailer for 4 years or so and until recently have towed it with my 2013 F150 5.0. The F150 invite works great just like it's supposed to. The F159 does pretty good towing so I figured our 2016 crewmax would really do the job. The Tundra towed the heck out of it but didn't stop it worth a damn! When we returned home from camping, I immediately took the Tundra into the dealership. I was told that nothing is wrong with it. I expressed my safety concern and also that I have read numerous forums with the same issue. I was told by the service guy that I can't believe everything I read! That got me a little fired up. He fed me a line of bs about the tech who checked out my truck tows a lot with his Tundra and has never had a problem and has never heard of this problem. I'm pretty frustrated to have a $40,000+ truck that has a brake controller that doesn't work. I could install an aftermarket controller but that is beside the point.

I am on my way to a second dealer! First told me nothing wrong! When I asked what voltage he measured at the plug, he looked dumbfounded! How do you know it works? " I squeezed the manual override ". So,, How do you know the connection from the brake light switch to the controller is good? Again. blank stare ! No luck there! On my way to second dealer who actually has the integrated controller in stock. For the record, in my case, switching to hydraulic mode and turning the gain down gave me brakes on the highway! Until that stopped working also!

I wouldn't waste to much time at dealerships, unless you're getting loaners and need to run errands a few times a week.

This is a scary problem to have, and I wouldn't even deal with it.

There's a software update/tsb on the integrated controller. Take it in and have them flash it.

What model years? Does this go through 17 or are the 17s already on what they have deemed the best version?

Thanks for that useful information. Hopefully this is the fix and the Tundra will be the perfect 1/2 ton tow rig.

I have not yet, going to install this weekend. Next week I tow 6,000lbs for 400miles so my families lives may depend on it as well. I might try to make an appt. this week and see about that TSB before I install. Has anyone had the TSB performed yet?

That is always an option with the TSB.

Hopefully it works. Wouldn't that be awesome!?!

It would be, I at least have the P3 as a backup in case the TSB doesn't work. I liked the fact that I could view the Integrated brake controller in the information screen.

Interesting they make note, a few times, that customer has to report dis-satisfaction with current behavior. So are there 15-17 owners happy with the way it functions, or is this just a statement to cover ass? I'm not sure I'll ever tow a load that large within my warranty period, trying to decide if I should just go get it flashed anyway.

So after much nashing of teeth and a lot checking voltages and connection losses, my situation turned out to be in the trailer. I have a fifth wheel and it has a metal connection box behind the pin box. First I found a Wire NUt, that was loose. Who uses wire nuts in trailers? Thought that was the whole problem. Then the brakes went out again. Again, several discouraging hours and it turned out to be a bad ground connection. My integrated brake controller is back to working just fine. I will solder all the connections when I get home. By the way, I learned a good trick. If the brakes arn't working, pull the break away, brake safety pin to see if that stops or keeps the trailer from moving. If it does, at least you know you do not have to keep looking beyond that point on the trailer. That device put s full battery power to the brakes. Then check the voltage coming from the pig tail to see if you have voltage on the pin going to the brakes. Trace forward from there, but don't forget to make sure the common ground is good too. if you ground to the chassis you might miss this point. I did. Every thing was checking out when I used the chassis for my ground and test point.

Well took my truck in today for the tsb, dealer hadn't heard of the issue and said I was the first complaint. They looked up the tsb and performed without issue. Procedure took about an hour, I will hook the trailer up tomorrow and let you guys know the results.

Yep, Dealership didn't know about it at first and said they had no complaints but they looked it up and performed it w/o issue. Only took about an hour to perform. Came home and hooked the trailer up and I still cant get the trailer brakes to lock up but with gain set at 7 I can now slow the truck down and hold it, something I was not able to achieve before even with gain at 10. So I would say the TSB helped, maybe Toyota wants slow and steady trailer braking..:notsure:

Just got in from my trip, trailer with my truck on it was 6200lbs, full bed of camping gear, 3 adults and my daughter. So I was loaded pretty good, brake controller worked very well. If you have had issues with this make an appointment.

Btw these trucks are beast, my truck did amazing with that load and I got great mileage doing it.

Because there's been no consistency in who's IBC will work correctly and whose will not, it seems like a reasonable question for the dealer to ask. They may actually be trying to get information, who knows?

do you know what is the fix? do they reprogram the ECU or the controller has its own software?

My receipt stated that they reprogrammed the trailer brake ECU, so my guess is the brake controller has its own software.
