First time owning a Tundra and never even thought about buying one. My neighbor drives a Tacoma and said go try a Tundra. I said, ok, I’ll go check one out.

My 2500 Ram Laramie has been in the shop since November 16, 2022 waiting for a new $11K OEM transmission which is under Mopar MVP Warranty service which is total hogwash. When I finally get my RAM 2500 back… that’s getting sold and going back to Ford for a 3/4 ton. Mopar warranty is a absolute joke.

So I had to buy a loaner from my mechanic buddy (Rav4) since Mopar didn’t give me one nor would give me a rental. It sounded like it would be only a month to a month 1/2 before my truck was done. Long story short, 4 1/2 months later, still no RAM Truck. I’m a calm guy, but finally had enough waiting and I’m done with RAM. Needed a 1/2 ton to get me by for a while instead of a Rav4. Looked on Cars.com, found a Tundra in the Twin Cities, test drove it for about 10 minutes. Parked and said I’ll buy it. 2 hours later I was out the door and traded my short term Rav4 which I didn’t exactly fit in. On the way home, I stopped at the dealership where my truck has been sitting on a lift for the last 4+ months, emptied it out and threw it all into my Tundra and the mechanic says "Decided to go away from RAM?". I laughed... "I said I'll save my cuss words for Mopar. It's not on you or the dealership." [Photo 2 below]

I’m a tall guy 6’6”, so I have always avoided sunroofs like the plague. Tried 4Runners in the past and I just don’t really fit in them or Tacomas. However, Tundras… never sat in one till 2 weeks ago and I’m really surprised at the headroom, how well I fit in it, how comfortable the seat is and just the overall driving experience. I just found a basic 2017 5.7 SR5 with 28K miles and didn’t really want any options. I just didn’t want a damn sunroof. For a 1/2 ton, so far in 2 weeks, I really enjoy it. I'm going to keep 2 trucks and I bought it under my business because I like it so much so far. So it should be a functional vehicle going across country in. If I still like this Tundra in a year or so, I'll probably upgrade and go newer after learning from this forum about all the different years, options, etc. Note: I Googled Tundra stubby antenna, found a thread on this forum with the proper part, ordered it and it works great. Nice having so many Tundra enthusiasts/geeks in one area.

Took the Tundra up to northern MN last weekend with my Polaris RMK 155” long track hanging out of the bed and enjoyed the last of the snow before it melts. Was fun to drive long distance and bigger gas tank than my 3/4 ton RAM. I think I may be a Tundra guy moving forward for a 1/2 ton truck.

    Welcome to the Forum.

Damn...11k for a 68RFE? They are so full of shit it would max out the payload on that 3/4 ton. Hell a full race 68RFE is 5400.00.

Glad you like the 2.5 Gen...gotta feeling you are going to be using it for double duty a lot.

But Ram is comfortable and has the nicest looking interior! :monocle:

Sorry, OP. Hope they sort you out soon so you can move on from that mess.

Welcome and greetings from East Bethel (Cedar) Mn. Where the heck are you with no snow in the background? I still have over a foot of snow in my yard! Congrats on your new to you Tundra. 2017 is supposed to be on of the most trouble free model year trucks.

I almost forgot to mention that your first upgrade is a full set (front and rear) of catalytic converter shields. There are quite a few quality options available. I bought Valhalla shields for mine. Cat theft is a major issue in Minnesota.
