I'd go with the LSD if you don't plan on off roading much. I can tell you from experience that a locker isn't necessarily going to save you in wet grass, sand, or mud. Then again, I didn't have any weight over the rear axle on my prerunners

I also had all the bolts loose on a my stock 1st gen tacoma at 120-130k miles. When I pulled it for 4.88's and locker/torsen. One bolt was hanging on only by 1.5 threads, ready to turn into shrapnel.

Everything but an open diff carrier is gonna be 2 pieces. OEM lsd, torsen (eaton, powertrax, etc), aftermarket LSD, air/electric lockers.

Going with red locktite was the right choice. That's what I run, unless I can use factory tabs as well.

Did you pull the pinion gear to see if it snapped in the middle or front just behind the flange?

A good LSD will probably be enough. You could do an air locker as well... or go full retard with a spool ;).

I'm satisfied with an LSD on my 2wd.

Ftfy. A 3500 rpm torque converter would help with tight corners.

The other piece is I have a spare torsen LSD at my gear install guy’s place. So it’s a $1k+ vs free sort of decision. Or maybe rent for him storing it for the past year or so.

I should probably go play in the same spot with the two other trucks in 2wd. Especially the 3rd Gen Tacoma in 2 low w locker engaged. It just feels so dirtbag to tear up my own lawn. And we are fairly visible. I need a fence pronto.

I seriously thought about how much work it would be to get the winch finished on the Tundra and use it to pull myself out. Somewhat amusingly, I didn’t own sae hex keys. I ordered a set of Wera and they sent me a single 1/8”. So I have that set resent as of today and hope to have the winch tight on the tundra by the end of the month. Even so, I’d have to block all traffic to winch from pavement which would be super dirtbag. Or winch from the upper mud pit which is nearly as dirtbag. So I think winch extraction from overflow parking is a no go.

Meanwhile where I’m at, 300,000 4 years ago is 800,000 today.. I’m from a once smaller town.. now I see exotic cars daily. And older farm trucks disappearing. Such a sad sight. But we’re close enough to Chicago and it’s gotten to expensive out there, the lawyers and doctors, etc are all moving here

Guess it's a 'thing'. I had plenty of preload on my carrier.
So obviously the bolts being loose are what caused the flange to shear off of the case, but I definitely had them torqued correctly. and now I've just gotta accept the loss? Thats fukt. At least the R&P weren't compromised

Damn dude. I'd call ARB and complain. That's too much money to just take a loss, because their product is crappy and they know it

What are they gonna do? Doubt they'll just kick down a new case. Maybe a 15%off coupon for a new locker? fuk that. They do carry a 5 yr warranty........
@Casper421 There's no way this locker's less than 5 yrs old right? Who'd you buy it from?

A set of traction boards would have done the job too.

You've got so many projects going on and limited time. I'm not convinced a LSD would make that big of a difference.

Does it have serial numbers on it? Maybe you can contact ARB and see if it’s the part they’ve redesigned and would possibly replace for you do to the design defect failure.

Any idea how long ago? I'm only askin cuz IIRC you never installed it, and it was in damn near new condition when I got it from you, so it would seem there's a chance it's under 5 years. Then again, people leave uninstalled parts stacked up for years sometimes. I was about to start taggin foo's but I think we're ALL guilty of that shit

Yeah, it's worth a shot. I think protocol will be to sell another completely built unit. Selling it on talk of liabilities and whatnot. We'll see...
