    Hi Folks. I just bought and mounted a truck box in the bed of my 2004 extended cab Tundra, but it's not easy to reach inside. So I've been looking at bed steps. I'd like to mount a bed step in front of the rear wheel well, BUT there's a leaf spring mount where I'd attach to the frame.

    Any ideas... or has anyone mounted a bed step there on a good old Tundra?

    :help:

    AMP research makes them for newer Tundras, but don't list them for 1st gen. Of course north of the rear wheel well, you are starting to get into running board territory. Why not just add some running boards?

    Thanks for the ideas. I was looking at steps as the more 'economical' option, but running boards or 6-step nerfs could work.
    {No, I've never been known as Herbicidal, but in college some called me 'Herb-less'.}

    Definitely look into AMP

    But personally, I wouldn't mind a third step nerf bar or running board

    I picked up a set of used running boards for $80 on facebook marketplace, otherwise you could probably find some cheap ones on ebay for like $100

    I have the AMP bed step. It is from the 2007 up tundras. I have to drill out one hole in the frame a bit more to mount the step. I unbolted the swing down part from the arm and eyeballed it. Found one hole in the frame spot on and drilled for the second hole. I love it. just little foot pressure and it swings down and pull up with my foot and pops back up.

    Super old thread but instead of starting a new one I searched and found this. Thanks for these details. I want a bed step like this. My dad has one on his Titan and it's pretty useful. Not sure you'll even see this post

    If anyone else has one installed and sees this post, let me know if you use this brand or a different one. I can't seem to find one specifically made for the first gen Tundra, so I'll probably go with this and modify it like you did.

    I have the same step on my Ford F-150. Very handy and tucks nicely out of the way.

    Definitely getting some soon. But I'm gonna have a truck camper on mine and retaining my tailgate so I want something to help step up onto the tailgate quickly

    Thanks. Looks pretty good. I asked because some of the descriptions on other one similar priced say all metal, but then the reviews say there was plastic that eventually broke in some of the small areas
