I did this last weekend in my 2011 with aftermarket tow mirrors. I used generic puddle lights off Amazon. Works great!
I wish there was a way to keep the cargo lights on longer after hitting the unlock button. But no real complaints.

You could attach them to your footwell light if you want them on longer. but lose the on / off / door function.

My Tacoma puddles are tied into the dome circuit but also has it's own switch for on / off / auto

Yeah, I thought about it when I was doing it. I like having it on my cargo switch in case I'm backing a trailer in the dark or whatever. If the lights go off as I'm walking up to it, I can just hit unlock again. No big deal.

I just installed Vleds puddle lights on my 2021 Tundra pro. Thanks for the excellent write-ups for instructions. Ordered their universal Tundra kit and didn’t need any additional wires or any taps. Took out the footwell bulb and inserted the vleds kit into it, and it works great. Dims when approaching vehicle and works in sync with the interior lighting. Easy enough - if I can do it, I’m sure anyone can.
