Has anyone had any experience with the tuners from D3 on a 2021 tundra 5.7L? Kinda curious about their product and also see they got an update coming soon for using 93 octane.

@nobodyintexas has worked with them. His experience is buried somewhere in the tail end of the "Harrop Stage 1" thread

Yeah I looked through that thread last night haha. I saw minimal info in respect to the 2021, I’ll look again.

D3 is on here not sure what their handle is though.

Nobodyintexas has a 2020 not sure anyone has posted about a 2021 yet. Looks like all the tuners have cracked Gen 2.5s at this point.

Whatever this forum told me to do
I would suspect the '21 is the same creature.

    Give Dennis a call @ D3.

Those dudes have my truck running mighty fine.

are you tuning an N/A motor?

if so, the Diderot effect is real. Guard your wallet.

I just had to google Diderot effect lol, I don’t think tuning these ECU’s is really a mental satisfaction. If I can squeeze some HP/TQ out of this motor I will. Toyota tunes these motors super rich to be overly conservative on the life span of the engine. Just my 2 cents anyways.

Just got my D3 today and added the 87 Octane with Cold Air MOD. Can't wait to see how it does and feels. Might have to even try out the 91 Octane tune at some point.

I have D3 tune since October of 2021, I already had headers + regear by then, I ran the 91 tune and it felt very good, they also removed the speed limiter for me (folks with 18+ who regear would hit speed limiter at about 90mph), I didn't dyno the truck but I did log 1/4 mile run with racelogic, it would run solid high 14s, I also got rid of my Pedal Monster as I couldn't get the pedal monster to a position I like, where D3 was pretty bang on.

They also did a supercharger tune for me since then, so I was able to put Magnuson kit before the 20+ kits were available to public.

Trying to help a friend with his D3 currently and not finding any instructions online. He says he's got a Xmas tree on the dash and rpms jumping around. Is that normal until it settles in a bit? I know it was on some of my past cars I've tuned.

doesn't sound right to me. both times I uploaded tunes with my d3 I didn't get an xmas tree dash afterwards or jumping rpms. hopefully someone with more knowledge chimes in soon.

as far as instructions go, don't know if you already have these but they're what was included.

Yea that's the instructions his came with but was looking for something a little more in depth. I guess that's it though. He did let the truck sit for about 10 minutes and all appears to be ok now. Hopefully all is good.

yea the instructions are pretty simple. the emailed instructions meantion a few extra things apart from the quick start guide but still simple stuff too. personally for peace of mind, I'd probably just give a call to D3 to make sure there wouldn't be any issues in the future after seeing the dash light up and jumping rpm's

Is the D3 tuner able to calibrate for larger tire sizes?

Just give D3 performance a call they have excellent customer support. I just got a D3 for my 21 and they walked me through the whole process over the phone.

So will the tune also provide throttle modification, essentially replacing the pedal monster? I'd like my '20 tuned, but am very happy with my Banks unit

I believe so.... most tuners are able to modify throttle response so you shouldn't need the Banks unit any more. I have a pedal commander which I am happy with as well, but a tune would be able to dial things in a bit more how I would like them to be. $630 for the tune, sell the PC or Banks system on this site for a few hundred and you're sitting a bit over $400 for a tune...not too bad in my opinion.

I’ve asked before and it’s not available for the Tundra.

Are any of you guys running the tune with just a CAI and a higher octane gas? I keep going back and forth on whether or not it would make much of a difference in my scenario. I could see it improving things significantly having headers (which I plan to do down the road) or a supercharger but is it worth it without those additional mods?

I bought a ‘21 platinum Monday. Previous owner already added TRD PRO duals. Tuesday morning I installed a S&B CAI and the D3 tune, I used the “91 Octane, CAI” tune. The throttle response is definitely better, but not jumpy, shifts are quick but not harsh, and it feels a little quicker for sure. So far I like it. I plan on adding headers next month, so hopefully that’ll wake it up a little more.
