Won’t start. Won’t turn over.

My wife’s 2014 Sequoia Platinum won’t start. No clicking sounds either. Put my multi-meter on the battery. 12.47 when completely cold. Turn the key on and everything lights up. Can turn the AC on full and the headlights don’t dim. Swapped the relay from my Tundra with hers. Nothing. I’m guessing the starter. Any other ideas??

 

Probably starter as you already said.

Grounds all kosher?

 

I’ve read about issues with the key fob chip. Do you have a spare key you can try?

Visually inspect all fuses? Inside and in engine bay. Any remote starter installed?

 

Did you try jumping it (to quick test if starter engages this way)?

 

Looked at fuses for starting. There is remote starter from the factory. ?

 

Is the instrument cluster displaying the appropriate P for park?

Have you tried starting in neutral?

 

No. Gonna push it out of the garage in the morning to see if my Tundra can jump it off.

 

Yes. Shows to be in P. One of the first things I looked as I had an F-150 that had that issue once. And yes… tried starting while in neutral as well.
Nothing.

 

I’m wondering if the remote starter is preventing it from starting.

 

How can I check that? Can it be bypassed?

 

You’ll have to locate where the starter module is located under the dash. See how it was installed, did they use a T harness or tap into factory wiring.

 

Use your meter to check for continuity from ground post on battery to engine block/chassis. That will confirm ground. You can place neg on engine block pos. on battery and check voltage to confirm. Also check for loose hot terminal. To starter. You might have rodent damages as well.

 

A dead starter usually clicks or dims the headlights when cranking.

I dont think you have ignition signal to the starter. Where to start looking for that, i dont know. An easy spot is probably a starter relay somewhere. Factory wiring diagrams are available on this forum.

 

Put a test light on the starter terminal & see if you have power when you turn the key. I had a starter that had a dead spot on the armature, it would stop on that spot & I'd have to move the armature to get it to work. Took a while to figure that one out.
