Does creality make the new coated bed big enough for the CR-10? My ender 3 Neos came with it along with the silent board and auto leveling.
The coated plate is really good at adhesion then releasing when cold. Just have to get the z offset right.

The magnet sheet thing? I managed to gouge mine up really bad because the thumb wheels managed to loosen completely without notice. I'll be switching the nuts out for nylocks. :frusty:

Can anyone suggest some good modeling software/videos? I use CAD and CAM daily, but fusion360 is absolutely garbage.

I'm looking to modify some existing stl files.

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking for some software to create and/or edit designs. I've found a few articles online but would love to hear more real world opinions

You can't modify STLs. It's a list of three space nodes defining a tesselated surface.

Fusion360 is going to be your best bet for no cost. FreeCAD is out there too, and has a userbase, but honestly I can't stand either. My preference is Siemens NX (for the whole CAE suite) but SolidWorks and Creo are also just as good for CAD (unsure of their CAM toolboxes - I'd avoid their FEA solvers).

The interface. It's so bass-ackwards that simple mouse gestures are chaotic. Having to use the top ribbon node to start a command, and using another ribbon node to finish or you get a different result is dumb. Give me the basic command then let me finish it and choose what I do with it.

Unigraphics is where it's at, but not user friendly. I use solidworks daily. I don't recommend their cam package unless you get the Mastercam add-in. And even then it's highly dependent on how it's modeled. FEA is a whole different ball game.

STL files can be modified with the right software.

20230204_215144.jpgI've managed to do multiple 1st layer adhesion trials at 60mm/s on my duplicator i3.

I'm using OLD (+4 years) grey pla. PETG build plate. I had a small corner pull up at the starting point.

It's not perfect, but it's close.

I picked up a TRD pro grill but hate the options for the grill covers out there. I have a 2016 so no TSS to worry about.

I decided to try out a project, initial test prints in PLA (ABS on order), but so far not too bad. I learned a few things along the way and I screwed up the clear coat on the mick up rushing before my wife and kids got home. Overall I think it is coming along, ABS should be here tomorrow and should offer better durability (I hope).

Inventor is my favorite, most user friendly program however has not not an industry standard. Student License is the best option.
I work in Catia V4 design there is NOTHING more infuriating than trying to reprogram your mind after work to navigate Google maps/ Cura / fusion.

I run a Prusa and fusion.

Late to the party, but I just joined the forum. Fusion has not been fun to learn, but I do some work in CAD and then send over or vice versa. To date, most of my work has been in aquariums and kayaks. Working on a couple things for my project truck and potentially the Tundra if needed.

If you were going to spend sub 500$ on a new 3d printer. Which model would you buy. Why it over others?

Ive had an Ender 3 for about 5 years now. It has served me well. I bought it with the original 8bit board. 3 years after buying I bought the 4.2.7 board and V2 display. Then a bit ago i upgraded that old E3 V1 to a sprite extruder (which cut its x/y volume some as I can no longer reach the end of, or extend beyond the end of, either axis with the nozzle. Not much, 190 down from 220).

It still works flawlessly and prints reliably well, but its time for a new machine. Considering my experience with the only one I've had. I am tempted to get a new Ender 3 pro model. (Sprite extruder and actual sized print volume) over my old E3. Otherwise its the same thing.

I have heard good things about the Prusa printers, and there are several other brands I am hearing good things about too...

I have an old, original wanhoa duplicator i3. I use it for petg. I got an Ender3 pro earlier this year and I love it. It's tuned for PLA and more precision prints. I definitely recommend and E3Pro.

Bumping an old thread but here goes nothing...

Personally I would save a little more and get something more modern. The standard bed-slinger design is dated and has some pretty large drawbacks. Core xy machines that run klipper/input shaper are the new hotness and you can get some great performance out of them. To the point that the thing holding you back isn't the kinematics of the machine, but how fast your hotend can actually melt the plastic.

I went with a Qidi X-Plus-3, which is core xy, klipper/input shaper, enclosed, all metal hot end, heated bed, heated chamber, 280x280x270 volume, all for $650. It worked great out of the box and runs circles around any bed slinger.

Another good option for a little more money is a Bambu labs P1S or P1P.

I will never go back to a cheap bed slinger again. I used to have a CR-10 (and an Anet A8, but lets not speak of that one, lol). The majority of my time was spent either printing upgrades for it to try and eek out a few % more performance, or babysitting it to make sure it wouldn't mess up.

With the X-Plus-3 I hit print and walk away. Prints finish in a 1/4 of the time with significantly more quality.

Interesting. My CR-10 has been a consistent workhorse for me. Granted I am still new to this, it has handled everything well.

I picked up a Peopoly Phenom Forge resin printer for a project somewhat recently and was surprised that it was also set and walk away after the initial learning curve, but the cleanup/post-processing still has me using the CR-10 more frequently.

To be fair, the CR-10 is not a bad printer. At the time I bought mine it was inexpensive (it still is) and all the high feature 3d printers were waaaaay out of budget. Now that high feature 3d printers are starting to come down in price, it doesn't make sense to me to buy a new CR-10 or similar printer. The cost-benefit analysis may be different for someone else.

I actually still have my CR-10, it's just in a corner collecting dust. At one point I took out the main board to upgrade it, then I got the the Qidi and didn't want to deal with the CR-10 anymore. The original main board is back in but I don't have the time or the drive to fire it back up and see if it's all working. If you're near SE WI, you're welcome to have it for spare parts, or put a little time in it to get it running again...

That is well written and I agree.
I'm in Madison however my parents are out in East Troy so I get over there often. I might take you up on that offer. At present I have too many plates spinning g to focus on 3d printing properly. In particular creation of novel stuff. I used to love that part with photoshop and similar software, but with three active kids, work, etc... No time

I have a few ideas I'd like to work on and I have yet to find a simple 3d software for creation that I can use without a fair ammoumt of learning. I'd love some ideas of what others have used

Totally get it, I also make it out to Madison here and there. I think the next time I'm out there is for NYE weekend.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with really beginner friendly CAD packages. I use CAD for work, so the free programs that closely resemble a professional CAD package are what is easiest for me. Fusion360 is my go-to for 3Dprinting stuff.

Hitting your old post again, because why not...

The new Bambu Labs A1 looks enticing, and could have me changing my tune slightly on bed slingers. It comes packed with some great features that are kind of unheard of at the $400 (printer only) price point. Plus you can add their AMS lite multi material system and get the combo for $560.

If I was going to get a printer that was single color/filament only it would probably be the Qidi X-Smart-3 (currently $300 on sale for the holiday). But The A1 would probably be my choice if I wanted AMS now or in the future.

I started out a few years ago, bought an Ender 3 Pro and did a few mods to it. I have it somewhat fine-tuned. I haven't really printed much lately. I'd love to learn more on 3D modeling as I do some basic modeling in Tinker CAD. I'd love to do a screen share with someone or something one on one with Fusion 360 or something to better understand when recreating something some ins and outs.

    I mainly print in PETG

It's kind of a side-gig for my wife. She wanted something to do before going back to work after finishing cancer treatment.

20231013_231327.jpg I print it. She sells it.

Almost all of this stuff is licensed from the original designers. I do all the design and development work for custom requests though.

I know this is a 3DP thread, but is anyone running a desktop mill? If so, what do you use it for?
