Newbie to Tundra has a few questions

Hello all, new here and looking to purchase a slightly used 2016 5.7 SR5 double cab. The options that I prefer are on the Limited. I see a few TRDs out there that I like, but I'm worried that the ride will be much stiffer. I do not need an off road suspension. So I would like some input on that.

If a plan to pull a trailer that is about 5000 lbs or so, would I really benefit from the upgraded tow package? I'm not sure what exactly the standard tow package offers (electric brake hookup?)

Now the seat question. Are the 2 front seats in the column shifter truck technically the same as the buckets with the floor shifter?

Any other input and heads up that you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Im pretty not sure but with the 5.7l tow package is one size fits all..I believe the red comes with an updated stabilizer bar but that's part of the red package not the tow package.

I believe the sr5 have better seats than the sr. Btw.. Welcome from suny fl

Welcome from Colorado. TRD suspension is not stiff; has more flex for off-roading. So you can tow with the TRD package.

Tow package, off the top of my head, has hitch, brake controller and tow haul mode which keeps the gears at the lowest for longer vs non tow pkg.

If you get the truck with the column shifter the seats are not the same since 3 can sit up front. So you'll have a bench vs captain chairs.

Hope this helps and folks that tow and have bench up front will have better info I'm sure.

So the TRD does not feel much bumpier than a non? If not much more difference, then that may also be an option for me. I need to also find out what a "pro" consists of.

I am aware of the center seat of the column shifter, just curious if the "captain" and "bucket" seats are actually the same seat (not including the center seat). They look similar, but concerned about lumbar support, etc.

Ok, then the "non tow package" does not have the haul/tow button. That would be handy to keep the tranny in lower gears longer. However, I have done a lot of towing on other trucks that did not have it. I just left the OD off.

Some of these answers are hard to find, so I will ask the experienced experts here

All 5.7 are tow packages.

 

The "sr" have no lumbar support driver and passenger seats are bucket seats that move independent of each other and the middle seat is fixed to the floor. Sr5 might have lumbar support as sr is considered a work truck and is the bottom trim. How to tell the difference.. Sr will have no badges and sr5 will have sr5 badges. I don't think the sr5 comes with the column shifter and bucket seats.

 

I have a column shifter and a tow package. I don't tow nearly as much as I used to, but when I did the tow package came in handy on long trips and hilly terrain. Plus it's so much fun to activate beast mode!!

Definitely get the tow package if you tow. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. You'll eventually need it though.

Seats are not the same as buckets at all. Buckets are way more comfortable IMO

TRD package usually has bilsteins. Good shocks for highway and mild off-roading but could be better.

Pro suspension is for a little more off-roading, handles great on the highway and is valved specifically for tundras. Super expensive and can get comparable aftermarket shocks for less.

Nice info from everyone. Thank you so much. Bucket with floor shifter will be it. And definitely the "tow package" then.
So the TRD has the Bilstein shocks, Is that about it or is the suspension (leaf springs) different?

TRD is not a necessary package, but it can be hard to find one that isn't a TRD. Almost everything that was TRD on my truck has been swapped out except the wheels which are different than SR5.
Bucket seats wrap up the side a bit more than the bench seats. They're not the same at all.

Remember the trd package is a package...the trd pro is a whole different trim level.
