    Hi All,

I have a 2002 which got the undercoating but it now quite clearly perforated toward the front. I understand the campaign is done but I keep hearing about 01-03's having frames replaced on a "case-by-case" basis all over. However when I talk to local dealers and/or call the jerks at customer service (sole existence of who is to say no over and over) I get told to pound sand. Does anyone know what the secret sauce is to make "exceptions" happen? I'd really love to keep this truck - only has 82000 miles and is otherwise perfect - but it's looking likely that my only two choices are to sell it or run it into the ground. Thanks for any info!

I bought my 2000 last November. Price was right, condition was fair but when I asked the PO about the frame recall he said he had never heard of it. On closer inspection of the frame it maybe had another season before it was going to need some major surgery. I told him I wasn't a player unless he could get the frame replaced.... he had owned the truck for 13yrs at that point and figured he might have some sway with the dealership. If not I had to walk.

The dealer did right by him and replaced the frame. I gave him his full asking price. This whole dance started in August of 2016 and as I stated I took delivery of it in November. The P.O. was patient as was I. The frame is rust free, brake lines and gas tank straps are new. Low mileage motor was what I was looking for and I couldn't be happier.

I'm not sure what he told the dealer but I have to believe that being the owner for as long as he was helped. Some dealers have to be easier to work with than others. If you don't hear what you want from this dealer go to another. It may take time and a long drive but a frame swap has to cost the dealers a load of money.

Pro tip..... if you get one to bite you should probably spring for all the parts you can ie exhaust manifolds, 90k belt service, lift kit, etc. All the stuff that would cost a fortune if the truck was together, knock it out when they do the swap. Most places will work with you on the labor since they have the truxk apart already. Wish I had known my exhaust manifolds and 90k service needed attention when it was at the dealer doing the swap.
