Either I’m jaded or just paranoid, but this feels like a trick

No tricks. I have the AJT and I just got a Jomax so I see what the difference is between the two.

So the pics are of the back side of the AJT. The edges are double layered to accommodate the design of the sensor and for the cover to sit flat against it. When you look at the pics, you can see how much of the cover is double layered. The single layer appears to be an 1/8 inch thick. I borrowed a Jomax to look at the mounting bracket and the cover plate. That cover plate measured 1/8th. While I was in that process of measurements, a ran across someone that was selling a brand new one that he wasn't going to use. That one was the last of the production and has a cover plate that is about 1/16th. That cover sits in front of the sensor obviously and uses nylon washers to fill the gap on the sensor mount instead of being thicker material. I have a sheet of 1/16th ABS (the Jomax cover is ABS as well). I'm thinking that I can cut it to make a new cover and see if it can replicate the same mounting style as the Jomax.

If this is the issue, I have my doubts that AJT will fix it. That is a bummer. I hope it works out for you and maybe you could sell a few on here. Little extra cash never hurt

Yes unfortunately AJT just sells the bracket and offers no support for troubleshooting. Both the AJT and Jomax mount in the same spot, same angle, etc. The only other difference is that the AJT fully encloses the sensor inside a box essentially, but I believe the signal is only from the front of the sensor itself. The AJT cover just seems to be too thick. I got random clean sensor errors with it. No errors at all with the Jomax. I also have an idea for a mounting bracket as well. Mine is working great now. I know the frustration that some are having, and my goal is to come up with something that works to help others out in this forum. I'm willing to make a couple brackets and covers and have a couple of people with current issues try them out and see how they work for them.

Well I’d certainly try that out as well. Happily pay you for your time / shipping. I’d really love to get that older pro grill on there and not have to look at an error code at the same time.

I bet you could take a Dremel or sander to those raised lines across the middle and knock them down to make the entire inside area flat. That may be the issue, uneven surface rather than thickness. The outer raised areas are just for fitment and probably don't affect anything.

I plan to give that a try when mine arrives. AJT, so far, hasn’t returned my emails or IG messages as to whether they can fix it themselves. I’m sure he’s super busy so I’ll do it and report back if it helps

AJT likely won’t do anything…..too much liability involved for them. There are disclaimers everywhere on their site and as a business owner I am positive he is not going to post anything explicit or implied about the functionality of safety systems on the truck. Those who have had no problems with the ajt relocation bracket are few and far between in my time on the forum. You may get lucky…..

I’m not sure what the alternative is at this point. You either live with a massive grill you don’t want (for some of us), or you go with AJT and risk it to have a better looking truck. There are only two brands that are ever talked about on here for relocation kits, and the other one doesn’t make them anymore. I personally don’t care for the sensor altogether.

I'm going to cut that faceplate for the AJT this weekend and make up that mount and faceplate for my version of the Jomax.

I wouldn't be scared to risk it. I've had mine like this for over two years and I've only seen the error code maybe 10-12 times in that time, and probably 8 of those when its pouring down raining which is likely to cause the error even on the stock sensor. Judging by the poll at the top of this thread, that's within the margin of error for even stock setups. Even if you get the error code it doesn't effect anything else other than the radar cruise doesn't work and your truck won't stop itself, and you'll have a dash light on until it clears. Worth it to me for the aesthetics upgrade.

Did you get the AJT bracket for your grille install?

I have a 2021 sport, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that sport package includes a 1" lowering of the rear.

That being said, before I installed my 3/2 leveling lift kit I would get brake!! + beeping noise and a display popup every 5th trip. It's super distracting and most times my eyes would shift to the screen instead of paying attention to the road.
Never was this call out helpful, I was already braking or changing lanes with a blinker on. It only served to distract.
After having the lift installed for a week and 400 miles on it, I've not experienced it one time. This thread has me wondering if the sensor is now worthless or if it's working properly.
I tend to keep my pedal commander on eco mode and drive 5 under everywhere but neighborhoods, for residential streets I cap my speed at 15 because I have kids and know how unaware of their surroundings all kids are.

Tldr; sensor issues on stock sport variant, none when lifted. Does it still work?

Bought a used 2020 SR5 last summer. Delivery took an extra day or two because the dealership needed to install a new windshield. Shortly after getting the truck the PCS warning would come up randomly. Took it to the dealership and a day later they said it was "fixed." Turned on the truck and the PCS warning came up. I took it right back in and was able to talk to a senior mechanic and he let everyone know it was a result of the non-oem windshield they put in. He said something like only 1 in 8 non-OEM windshields work with the collision system. They scrambled to find a Toyota windshield (at the time there was a one-year national back order). They put in the OEM glass and I have not had a problem since.
