Any suggestions on a head unit upgrade. I want one with the large touch screen with nav.

I just bought a leekooduu android head unit off of eBay for $160 shipped. Plug and play. I’m still installing it. Don’t have steering controls anymore and still trying to figure out wifi. Other than that, great head unit.

Are you frequently in areas without cell signal? If you aren't then there isn't any real reason to pay the extra for nav, Android Auto/Car Play are amazing and waze is better than any built in gps.

I've got a kenwood dmx1037s and its been great! Like many of us here, James Randy Taylor at tech12volt has great prices and great customer service.

Just be patient before jumping to the Kenwood 1057 or 1037. Seems like a lot are having rebooting issues. I’m glad I held off.

I looked at two Android head units.
    1. The Joying Model JY-TQ167N4G-B https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-2...inch-ips-screen-android-car-audio-system.html

    2. The Dasaita https://www.dasaita.com/products/da...1280-720-dsp-ahd-radio?variant=42620242067674

They both look like great radios, but I went with the Joying because it supports cellular data (has a SIM card socket). I also like that the Joying has a dedicated volume knob. I have had other Android units with only capacitive volume buttons and they can be a pain. To me, it is worth it to have a constant cellular/data connection to the head unit and not have to mess around with Android or Apple car auto/play. I have only had it for about a week.

On sale Crutchfield. Also reviews really good. Just curious the reason for this headunit where most want that bigger screen. I like it’s CD player.

I do a lot of dirt bike riding and go places where the phone reception is non-existent so I was looking for a dedicated nav system. I run a Garmin Montana on my 500EXC so I like the fact it uses Garmin technology.....and I like CD's :) I didn't want a floating screen type either.

Thanks the reason I asked I’m still deciding if I want the Kenwood 1057 which for reasons I decided not to add it. May go this route and I was looking at the good reviews on this headunit before you posted it. Thanks dude!!

Well I can't say I am a photographer but here's a couple pics. I modified the brackets as I didn't like the radio being so far inset into the face plate so I brought it out a little.

It’s looks good Ken especially bringing the headunit out further. I noticed that on other tundra installs where it seemed to sit back a little far. I assume it was not a big deal making that adjustment. What’s your thoughts so far on the screen and sound? I do plan on adding aftermarket headunit. It’s nice seeing this. Thank you.

On Joying's site (here) they say that they do not support the factory reverse cam it looks like? Did you have one in your truck? if so have you gotten it to work?

I do not have the factory backup camera on my truck so I just bought an OEM style backup camera and installed it. This one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WR9C3M4 I switched the lock mechanism over and ran the wires/wire loom to the head unit.

Anyone used the “ Tesla” screen? I’m not sure about it. I’ve got to add amp rear speakers etc to my reg cab and I don’t think it’s the right one for inputs etc. thoughts?

the nice thing about the kenwoods is the big volume control knob....I love that. Hooked hdmi cord up to Amazon firestick too.

I definitely like the volume knob. But held off on adding the Kenwood. For me now not doing any till I see if Kenwood does a better job with the rebooting issues. Or I may not worry about a volume knob and go with pioneer. I’m content with my JBL headunit. With my full system it sounds really good. Yes I know I can improv it with aftermarket headunit. Just being patient.

I'd talk to James at tech12volt...he sells a lot of the Kenwoods I think and can give you a perspective on the rebooting issue and any improvements. I haven't had one issue with mine.

Yeah I bought all my arc audio from him. There is too many posts about it. That’s why I’m holding off. My installer who owns the store for over 20 years that’s how long I been dealing with him. He would not have a problem removing the unit if their was a issue. I just don’t want to go thru that.

Ok, so I didn't like the way the HU was inset so I gave up the NAV but I got wireless Carplay. Much happier.
