So here's a tip for anyone changing out the pump and using the thicker rubber fuel lines they sell at the auto store. Make sure that the compressed length of the tube doesn't have any kinks! I thought I had made sure there weren't any to begin with, but it could have happened, the hose clamp could also have cut into the tube.

So this time I cut out some of the lid so that the hose is more in line with the connection point. Also measured the depth of the tank, 10" and then compressed the lid pump housing to make sure there were no kinks. Uncompressed height of fuel pump housing is around 11". I'm also going to remove the hose clamp I have around the base of the fuel pump holding it in place against the housing. Should allow the pump to move a little instead of kinking the hose also.

In last pic you can see how hose can kink if too long

That's how I did mine as well. I fucking hate dropping the tank.

Also make sure it's high pressure rated line. I had a line burst the exact same way on my FJ40 efi conversion, I grabbed some generic fuel line laying around but it was meant for a carburetor and not for 50psi through it.

Well I hope it doesn't blow again! This is what I used, doesn't say anything about pressure rating

Dang it. I'm not lowering the tank again today, I'm already out to buy a celebratory 6 pack! Hopefully it just blew because it was kinked a bit, which I'm thinking happened. Shouldn't kink this time around

Not as great a deal as the other one that sadly turned out to be a scam but here’s one in Texas, older model with the TRD logo. Guy seems to be legit but always gotta be careful. Just thought I’d share though for anyone interested, would love to get it myself but no clue if it'd work on FFV and the dudes a little far. 22675D5F-FFAA-4FF9-A99C-0BE4DD7EA910.jpg 4F8556B2-2261-43EF-973D-094AF70CE980.jpg

That one is indeed legitimate, he’s a moderator on the boosted page. I think that tap on the front left of the blower he added on. It is an IAT sensor to get an accurate intake temp like the harrop instead of using the MAF sensor.

I don’t think it’s going to work long term but you bought some time. Search for fuel injection hose. Reinforced for higher pressure.

Ya, two floor jacks. Plus like a 1sqft piece of plywood on them to center it.

And in retrospect, I should have left some 2x4's down for the tank to sit on, to leave room for the jack to get back under. I only have 11" of clearance at the frame rail, and even with the tank on the floor I had to lift the truck some to slide the tank out

I'm here for him telling us how he had to replace the second fuel line literally in the parking lot of the auto parts store 30 seconds after purchasing the new one. ;)

Fuel shit is always such an absolute bitch. I've had nearly every possible issue with fuel stuff, most of it resulting from racecars with systems cobbled together. "Fuel safe" foam that degrades and clogs things, FPRs that can't handle the pressure of a pump and get overpowered, the FPR losing pressure and having to fuck with it to work, lines kinked, hydramats, going arm deep into a full fuel cell to undo fittings, fucking with check valves, pumps that burn up, injectors that don't seat, fuel lines that leak, fuel lines that burst, the list goes on and on.

I absolutely despise fuel systems, it seems like no matter how much planning and quality of parts you buy something inevitably doesn't work out and it's a complete bitch to diagnose. At least this thread has proven I'm not alone, considering the issues we see every month from something as basic as the fuel pump and how it sits in the canister to the injectors not seating.

When you take it out for the third time, drill some holes in the side of the basket near the bottom to help it fill. Prospeed verbally doesn't recommend this as they don't encourage WOT pulls under 1/2 tank due to sloshing. However I've talked to a few of their customers that told me they drill the holes if you have them do the s/c install. Can't hurt

@reywcms is the only one running the Whipple at this time. Even if the kit comes with a canned tune I would get a custom tune so your truck runs tip top.

If you sign up for installer newsletters there are usually deals twice a year that take drop the price on blowers. Whipples had some killer deals at the end of the year.
