I feel almost embarrassed to ask this, but the wife and I are up in arms on this.

    What we are looking for:

    -Lasting finish
-replaceable (I have kids and shit happens)

We have mixed sets now and some we have had since 1996 and some that has barely made it three years from cracking.

    1996

    A few years ago.

    1C465309-97FF-4673-874C-1B2E682AF174.jpg

We have looked at these Le Creuset in this color:

    E8006779-F701-456A-A57D-AA575E194347.jpg

For a dinner place set for 12 it will cost around 5-550.00. Yeah...a little spendy but the reviews and warranty are pretty good. They are made in China.

What do the elites use on Tundra's?:D

Too pricy for me on stuff that breaks. We had a nice set for 12 that a tree took out along with the kitchen. So glad it wasn’t expensive.

We just hauled off and bought a set of Fiestas. Totally worth it. I’ve dropped a plate flat on the ground and it just sort of shrugged it off. LOL

My wife just got rid of all our Fiesta. That is good quality stuff. We’re doing ceramic from Target now. Don’t want to get too fancy; our kids regularly break them.

Corelle here, super white of course. Timeless classic stuff, easy to replace pieces at any Corelle outlet shop or Walmart. Basically bought individual pieces and a bunch of them the first time out of the gate, so when they hit the floor we still have a decent supply. Sometimes they actually bounce off the tile and survive, but when they break, they shatter in mess of small slivers. No regrets and it's easy to find other things in white to compliment them such as turkey platter, divided fruit & veg trays, etc. Good luck!

This kids school used to do a fundraiser, draw a design on like wax paper and it gets put onto a plate, we have some from when I went there as a kid too. But I have a feeling you want something more fancy and presentable for guests

We have this Mikasa set that we never use. Wedding gift from her best friend. Not sure why we just don't use those.

That's the thing - we've dropped the shit out of ours on the floor, and they just won't break. They go *clang* or *doink* or what have you. I dropped one on a *concrete* floor in the basement. I could swear I heard it say "Bruh. WTF." But it didn't break.

Cheap black round plates from Ikea. They're for holding food. They'll go in the dishwasher and eventually get dropped and broken. I fail to see the point in spending big bucks on such things.

Fiestaware for the win and anything remotely close to a fancy meal or something that took effort to make.

We have been collecting for about 10y. Initially bought 6 or so place settings (4 pc with bowl and mug). My wife buys the new color every year, the odd piece off local used and asks for stuff for Christmas and Mother's day etc).

We have yet to break or damage a piece with 2 kids in the house. When we set the table, we mix and match so it's all different colors of every piece

You have more dishes in those pictures than I've had total my life. :D

At The Woman's request, we just bought a 60 piece flatware set at Costco for $60. I thought that was extravagant and have been threatening to buy another custom knife or a rifle as a counter balance.

The Fiestaware was my idea when we remodeled the kitchen and dining room years ago. I didn't think my wife would turn it into a hobby, but she did. She loves collecting it, setting the table and seeing it all laid out colorfully. It makes her happy so I'm fine with it

To be honest, wr are running out of room in these two cabinets

Initial investment is high and prices keep going up. We opted for the 4 piece place settings as we didn't need the cup and saucer and actually use the bowl and mug. Check Kijiji and you may get lucky with someone selling a collection locally.

After that, it's 1 new color a year, so $60-70 Canadian (bed bath and beyond, I think) and the odd piece she buys or gets as gift.

We normally do random colors, like below. But also do "fall colors" or "spring" theme or our niece sets it at our house in a gradient flow (yellow, to orange to red".

    Smart man.

We got ours about 2 years ago. My wife is pretty damn frugal...but when she's finally ready or convinced to do something, she goes all out. I could tell she was sort of trying to talk herself out of it halfheartedly, but really wanted them. I finally told her "Sweetie...we're still using our WEDDING plate set from 20 years ago. I *THINK* it's OK to buy a new plate set now." LOL

She hauled off and bought plates, saucers, bowls, some mugs, etc., and is happy as a pig in slop, and happy wife, happy life. :)

    Answer in two parts. :
Everyday dishes - Plains simple white corelle. Tough as all get out and in the unlikely event you break something replacements are available at flippin Walmart.
So in 1986 we received correle (dad worked at Corning research), Onieda stainless (wife's cousin worked there), Revere Ware pots and pans (was stationed in Rome Ny at the time where the had a factory). 36+ years later we are still using all of it.

SO when my son moved out we bought him the same.

Formal Holiday Dishes - Mikasa Trafalgar. Simple elegant pattern. After 36 years not one piece damaged. We bought the full service for 8 for $100 back in 1986.
But it was discontinued. We wanted the gravy boat, so I contacted Replacements limited, and was I would be on a waiting list. 5 years later I got an offer on one fro $200.
Or they offered $1000 for the entire service for 8.

Tried to quote the Mikasa comment above but I am grilling, drinking beer, on my phone, and a dumb dumb.

Anyway, it reminded me that we got Mikasa set for 4 with our wedding 20 years ago. We have never used. We have never even washed and the barcode label is still there. If/when the boy gets married I am going to demand I audit their registry because while this was romantic at the time it was a complete waste of money.
