I went to Valveline to have the oil and transmission fluid changed... no biggie. I guy a trust works there and he looked at it and said it needs a special adaptor to do that, and he could not do that. So I tool it to the dealer, and waited for them to look at it, and they said the same thing. So, why is this service, so difficult, why cant a dealer take care of this.

Its a 2019 TRD PRO with the tow package if that matters.

Where should I go for this service?

Literally makes 1000% no sense at all. Anyone who owns a $4.99 Harbor Freight tool set can do both these jobs. For a dealer or Oil Change facility to say they don't have the adapter for a Toyota cartridge oil filter then they are lying to you. If a chef said he could not make something cause he didn't have a knife, then you would smile and leave. The problem you are going to have with a 2019 is a dealer will charge you for the transmission service but absolutely not do it. There is no way for you to tell. If you could, you would just do the service yourself. Find a local shop that deals with Toyota's and has a crapload of good reviews and go there. With 70K you could still do a flush if you want but if they don't charge much for a drain & fill just do that and then have them do it every year or two.

The truck is not the issue, it's the incompetent people you talked to. I think that's a sign you shouldn't go to them for any service in the future.
    Good luck!

Sad day when there is a 14mm wrench bandit on the loose.

My curiosity is making me lose my mind. Would love to know what “ special adapter” means. I own a 10mm, 12mm, 15mm socket but not the special adapter 14mm I guess.

Not knowing about a specific tool for this service, I would have asked for specifics. My guess is they are missing a part to connect their pumping machine to the truck’s ATF lines.

Thanks all for responding, still looking to have this service done. Other life things came up over the past few weeks.

Im sure its not as simple as a wrench, but it has something to do with the TRD PRO and the tow package.... from what I was told. I did take it to a Toyota dealer near me, and thats what they said. Im not a mechanic or even pretend I know what the winston crank knob bushing does, but.... if anyone has any other ideas Ill be glad to listen. I just dont want to drive around town waiting for a mechanic to look at it and then tell me they cant do it because of this unicorn adapter.

There are zero differences with a Pro. A drain and fill on these trucks is less than an hour.

Lucky my skids are down and I can show you how simple this is -

D if your drain, C is the check port, F is the fill on the driver’s side.

Show them these pictures and ask where the special adapter goes. :notsure:

The issue is the 19 - 21 model years not having cooler lines running up to the grill.

I suspect the adaptor replaces the heat exchanger and has two ports on it for the fluid exchanging machine.
