It is clearly imported, that usually means +25 years old or someone paid a lot for emissions and other things for US roads.

Its in amazing shape and such a cool rig. 4x4, has oversized cooper ATs, set up for off grid and camping. The back had a platform with a full bed. I didnt take much of the interior, there was a dog in there I didnt want to upset.

Caught my eye because it had some age and was in great shape. Then I noticed the larger AT tires and was like, well what is this? Fully expecting to see a Mitsubishi emblem on the front as I walked over....and the Toyota logo!

At any rate, just wanted to share, this is such a cool and fun rig.

Is that a curved moonroof that stretches clear across the rear deck?

It’s certainly reminiscent of the Mitsubishi.

    Very cool!

So did some looking, think maybe it is 80s to mid 90s model. Looks like they came with the 2.7 engine that was used in Tacoma. They were also available with a 2.5 Turbo motor and maybe others. Toyota started making the Hiace in 1967 and are still making this model today!

Did some searching as well - this looks like a 90’s model. It appears there were some 90’s models produced with a 4WD drivetrain. Wonder if this is one.

I lived in Northern Japan 2003-2005 and these HiAce vans were nearly ubiquitous. I drove a 4 banger Toyota Surf and my wife had a diesel Mitsubishi Pajero.

There are a couple of import companies around the US that sells Japanese market-imported into the US vehicles. The Oregon one is: Javan Imports--www.japanesevans.com.

They pop up on bring a trailer from time to time. Same with the Mitsubishi Delica.

OP- There is a place in Richmond, VA that imports stuff like this. Might be where it came from.
