Seriously. Supercharger. I have the same truck, paid off. It’s expensive but the supercharger really stepped it up for me. So glad I did it.

Since we’re starting with the cheap mods, how about a solid axle swap, LT suspension, and custom rear C channel boxing?

Performance and mileage won't happen together. Supercharger with TRD exhaust is the way to go. Suspension with lift and proper wheels and tires. Bigger is better, mileage be damned.

    Too many, but not enough....
Get gears. Cheaper than supercharger, no tune, let's you run bigger tires and actually eases strain on your drive train.

Also dirty deeds exhaust for fun, noise, power and some mileage increases

Get a plan for what you want to do. Mods arent cheap and you don't want to waste your money just to do it.

Go through the "What did you do to your Tundra Today" thread and see what gets your attention and start digging from there.

First off start a savings account for future repairs. Secondly, go through the truck and make sure it's all in great shape, brakes, u joints, drive belt, hoses, battery, water pump, maybe a starter, maybe a fuel pump, thermostat, wiper blades, maybe headlights, maybe seat covers, wheel bearings, cv joints, tires, maybe a windshield if pitted, etc. Just a general all around getting it in great condition for another 3-5 years. Then begin with the suspension, bumpers, gears, rims, exhaust, infotainment, etc. It's really easy to spend over $50k building a nice truck nowadays and also really easy to spend around $3-7k on a repair bill so be prepared and budget accordingly. If you really don't or won't need a decked out truck, get a decent more economical ride, and start buying and flipping real estate. You will be making money vs. spending money which for most people is a much better position to be in. After you bank a little cushion, you can always get to work on a dream truck.

This guy right here is thinking bigger. Nothing like a dope ass 40k paid off truck you spent 10k supercharging only to have a blown motor 6 months later and no money to fix it.

not saying the supercharger will blow the motor.

Modding your truck, such as life itself, is about needs and wants. What do you need? And what do you want? Make yourself a couple lists, and then decide where to spend your money. I agree with the above posts that some preventative maintenance would be a wise investment. There are many aesthetic mods you can do to the truck that won’t require you to spend thousands of dollars.. usually performance mods will cost you quite a bit, almost always decreasing your fuel mileage, which sounds like something you don’t want. Lifting the truck or beefing up the suspension is always a cool idea, but if you’re not off roading or mudding, maybe it’s not entirely worth it. A want instead of a need.. if there are some mods your set on spending money on, let those be known and I’m sure people will be happy to chime in on how best to spend your money. An open ended question on modding your truck is like trying to write a book without knowing how you want it to end. Not trying to preach lol but you need to figure out what exactly your trying to accomplish with regards to your truck and how best it suits your “needs”

Get and keep your frame and cab/bed undersides treated for rust.

The Tundra can be like the infamous Tacoma, and rust out from-under itself if not maintained!

Same as you, I have a 2017 paid off. Without getting into crazy $ I added Pro LED lights w ihacker harness, then TRD rear sway bar, then bilstein 5100 shocks w 1.5 level. I stayed w 275 60r20 tires to keep fuel usage manageable. Lights and sway bar were huge improvement as daily driver.

Thanks, much appreciated information. As much as I'd love to supercharge it. That's not in the works as of right now. Shocks, intake, chips?, exhaust? Not loud but better breathability.....

If I put the dam Bilstein 5100 on the truck will the leveling kit I put on originally be on ok or do I need to put the blocks on the rear? I'd really just love to upgrade existing hardware to something superior than stock. I really don't want to lift it more than it is mebbe an inch or two no more than that.

Ok, anyone running arsenal wheels? They've got a nice look....not to wide, burley though. Need to get away from that dam swing arm but hate offsets.

Thanks I appreciate a good garage discussion.

The 5100s will level your truck. May squat some in the rear if you load the bed or use a trailer. I put Toytec shackles on rear to raise the back an inch or so, it levels out when I haul stuff. Concerning intake, chips ect, you have a tow haul button and some guys like the Powercommander device.

Basically, this sums up everything your asking /\.

Discussions about pros and cons specifically around your selections of a 5100 setup vs other brands or models) would be in the suspension section I linked in my post above. Same about the chip discussions, that's in performance and tunning section I linked above. Lots of great threads and discussions.

and before you ask. a cold Air Intake is worthless

Powercommander is subjective. If you drive without towing but have the Tow/Haul button on and wish the pep was even more, then yeah powercommander is for you.

There are adjustable suspensions on the market specifically designed for towing. I have Tereflex Falcon with adjustable (turn knob) rear shocks for stiffening up the rear when towing. Lots of options out there. I'd skim the suspension threads before buying a full 5100 setup.

Curious about the sway bar.. is it front or rear? Stiffens up the ride a bit does it? I have F sport front and rear sway bars installed on my Lexus IS350. Just wondering how the truck rides with one installed..

If you feel body roll on the highway or back winding roads then the TRD rear swaybar will fix this. Truck will stay flat and planted in the turns especially when hauling some weight in the back. I haven't felt that it affected the ride at all.

I won’t be towing that much.. few times a year.. is it worth it for just a daily driver improvement?
