A 2013 5.0 crew cab weighed about 5800 lbs minimum and was DOHC with port injection with a 6 speed trans not unlike the Tundra. I would expect it to get similar MPG.

A current 5.0 gets quite a bit better mpg.

I really dont understand why power and mpg needed to be mutually exclusive. Ford seemed to achieve both.

The 4.30 gears are not all that impressive once you look at the transmission ratios. The spread is almost no different than a 6 speed F150 with 3.55's. They had to put 4.30's to compensate for the 3.333 1st gear, which is equivalent to something like a GM 4L60

Ford Superdutys are now running 4.30's with a 4.6:1 first gear.

Or hes Canadian and its -40 degrees outside and he short trips it and never even got the battery warm enough to power the drive motor most of the time.

That's kinda crazy; I've gotten no less than about 13.5-14 city.

Then he idles his truck a ton. That average speed works out to be only 13 mph. And a good bit of the distance traveled is electric ( 627km )

you cant really compare each others MPG, there are way too many variables down to fuel mixture in the local market.

that's why the EPA ratings are as close to apples to apples as yo can get IMO.

but I get what your saying, Ive heard the same thing about tundras, some dudes get 20, I get 13 if Im lucky and I don't drive aggressive

My guess is if he didnt have a Powerboost, whatever engine he had would be the same or worse for the conditions he was driving in.

I get that, everyone's use case is different. My Tundra was the same as yours, I'd try hypermiling and still not hit 19 mpg while others claim to be getting 22+ mixed driving. 14 just seemed excessively low unless he's towing or has a lift with ultra heavy tires. Everyone is different.

This became a thing when every other manufacturer pursued higher MPG and Toyota didn't with the Tundra. Also, there is a lot of gaming of EPA tests and Toyota didn't do that. As of 2021 it really was well behind the competition in this respect. I kinda wish they'd made some minor mods to the V8 with the 10spd, maybe boost MPG 10% and called it good...

Even when you use the semi-bogus EPA data, the Tundra still came out the cheapest full size to own because of it's stellar resale. It's a no-brainer to me... cheaper all around and less time in the shop.

I like that with the new tundra you can still get max power on 87 regular as well.

around here premium is WAY more, its not like the old days where each grade was only .10 per gallon

While I dont tend to massively care about MPG, I was testing the GMC 6.2 and you need premium fuel to get the max power so that Im going tundra it wont exactly hurt my feelings to run 87 and get max power.

I'm getting about 11-12mpg city , and I do primarily city driving, about 5 miles each way/30 min trip. Driving pretty softly/average, but I do warm up my truck for 5-10 min in the morning and idle it for couple of minutes to let turbos cool. Highway is pretty good at 19-20mpg

I'm trying not to think about my bad fuel economy yet... Not sure it anything is wrong or if this is normal due to the warm ups and cool down idling

yup all that alcohol in gasoline decreases your gas mileage by at least 10%......it is subsidized and makes your car use more of it....

More so the butane they have to use to give it enough vapour pressure to get your truck to start.

For E10 the MPG hit is 3%. Ethanol has ~70% of the energy density of gasoline. That's in the gas all year though.

I've been unsuccessful at finding out exactly what is put into winter gas, but this place claims there should be a 2% difference, winter vs summer. https://www.bellperformance.com/blog/bid/49483/Fuel-Mileage-Dropping-Blame-The-Winter-Blend-Gasoline

Higher air density, stiffer tires, stiffer seals, and longer warm ups are other factors that will decrease winter MPG. Driving on snow would be another one.

I read that, also OP said he had it checked by his dealer a little while before that and they believe they would have caught that. Also went 5k before it blew? Unlikely. Probably just a fluke anyway. At least his passenger mirror has not fallen off yet. :anonymous:

How are the BP-51's. I just did Bily 6112 HD's on my Lexus GX. I thought the 700 in-lb springs were gunna be a bit rough on an otherwise stock GX but they float.

I love them, wish they made them for the F-150. I had BP-51 on my Tacoma as well. Loved being able to play with the rebound/compression on the fly depending on what I was hauling.

I'm in Florida as well and was looking for a second vehicle to scoot around to the beach and around town. The insurance down here is really the biggest problem that I can't get around. I work from home and the Tundra is $160/mo to insure. A C5 or Miata would be another $120-150/mo for insurance. So just to have 2 cars sitting on the driveway costs $300/mo.

I wish we could get pay-per-mile insurance down here. I had that up North and my bill was like $70/mo.
