Needing to replace front rotors. Looking at EBC RK and EBC Sport Slotted and possibly Hawk Performance Talon Cross-Drilled. Only thing I tow is a bass boat. Was also looking at the StopTech Slotted, but did not know if I really needed the cross drilled or slotted. Are the RK's any good?

    thanks!

Cross drilled rotors are for racing. Go quality over flashy features. EBC and Stoptech have been well reviewed here, except for the one guy that had brake shudder with his EBC rotors. Slotted rotors holed up well and do not compromise the rotors longevity the way cross drilling does.

Was leaning towards the EBC slotted, but a couple of websites I have looked at were out of stock or back ordered. Any idea how much of an improvement the slotted EBC's or StopTechs have over the EBC RK by chance? I agree, I would much rather have quality any day over something flashy. I have only seen maybe a few that have said the ebc or stoptech had warped on them. Guess I need to find a good site that has one of those two in stock that isn't going to break the wallet :)

    Thanks!

I've seen a lot of good reviews on those also!

Just realized you was one of the ones in the threat I was looking at with the cryo's. :) How have they held up since you had them?

Holding up fine. That said, I typically try to time my arrival at intersections to roll on through, so I don't use brakes a whole bunch. They will shut it down quickly if necessary though. Factory set of 4 low mileage rotors is up for sale. Good luck with your search!

Good to hear. Now I'm just looking for a site which has the best deal, although I may just buy from ExtremeTerrain since I've bought several things from them in the past couple of years.

I've come across that site a few times as well. Not bad prices for the most part looks like.

IMG_20220319_143118172.jpg IMG_20221207_170025128.jpg I have around 10k miles on Hawk Talon Drilled/Slotted rotors and Hawk LTS Pads (front/rear). I didn't buy these to be "flashy", I actually wanted the slotted only version but couldn't find any in stock at the time. Also, Tire Rack had them discounted to around $250/front or rear set. I tow in the summertime pretty heavy (7k lb travel trailer), in and around South Texas and Texas Hill Country. I am really impressed with these brakes/rotors. They have a lot of bite, no squeals/noises, super smooth but do emit a decent amount of dust, which I feel is an okay trade off for excellent braking. I haven't experienced any warping or vibration. Disregard the "flashy" chrome wheel, they were on the truck when I bought it.

First thing I noticed was the Eibach's :) Seems it is this way for a lot of sites since covid hit. I was wanting to get some Bilstein 6200's for the front a year ago, but since they were on back order at every site I went to decided to get the Eibach 2.0 coilovers instead.

I did see the Hawk's on a few sites and were marked down which is the reason I mentioned them as well. I have replaced a few things on my truck and did away with all chrome so my preferred style would to be simple lol. I could get the autozone carquest platinum for $130 for the front pair, but just feel I might be replacing again pretty soon.

Another question I'm not sure of is can you use a different brand of pads for either the ebc/stoptech/hawk? I've got akebono's on the back right now, but will replace the pads with new rotors as well.

    TY

Of course you can use any pads. I actually used EBC yellow pads with the Stoptech rotors. Nothing wrong with Akebono pads.

@kshays Good choice on the Eibach 2.0's. I installed the Eibach shocks on stock front springs, set to the middle 1.25in setting. I did this to lift the frontend some after installing RAS on rear for towing. The RAS "lifted" the rear up 1.25in. So I'm back to stock rake, but also lifted 1.25in. I'm level when towing, which was my goal.

I've used Hawk LTS Pads on my Gen 1 and previous Gen 2 Tundra and Hawk Super Duty pads on my RAM 2500 Cummins. I was always impressed with Hawk pads so figured I'd give the rotors a try. So far, they've worked out great. My wife's Sequoia has Centric Cryo Rotors and Hawk LTS Pads...the Hawk Talons have much better bite than the Centric/LTS setup IMO.

Stoptech actually sells a towing/hauling brake package, with heavy-duty drilled/slotted rotors and pads. And they work, installed the kit on all four corners, set the pads correctly, and the Tundra stops like a boss!

Great prices too on Stoptech stuff.... No affiliation, just a satisfied user.

I researched quite a few weeks mainly because I have never owned a truck until now. I drove mostly toyota camry's after owning several vehicles prior that just seemed to break down after 100k miles. So a lot of this is/was new to me :) Right now my truck sits almost level so when I tow my boat it should sit pretty much level.

I'm not sure what my wife's lexus rx350 has on it, but it seems to stop on a dime as well. I do know her front wheels get dust on them bad, got to clean them 1x per week of how bad they start to look.

One problem I have right now is for the price I want to spend only the EBC RK's and Hawk slotted rotors are in stock. Some sites I have called/emailed on the EBC slotted, cryo, etc... were actually not in stock even though website shows they were. A couple shows 12+ weeks to ship while others just showed out of stock. Right now it looks like if I want to get any it is the Hawk https://www.extremeterrain.com/hawk-performance-tundra-talon-slotted-5-lug-rotors-hts4977.html or https://www.extremeterrain.com/ebc-brakes-tundra-rk-series-premium-oe-style-rotors-rk7435.html

The pulsing is not too bad if I am just daily driving, but last weekend when I had a little weight in the bed it was way worse!

I was really leaning to the stoptech or ebc, but I may have to go with something different. I just do not want to spend money and less than a year later replace them with better ones :) TY
