Anyone here into machinery and tool restoration?

I've been slowly building my collection of machines and tools over the years, and I like taking old machines and bringing them back to life. I'm not an expert, and by no means am I putting out museum quality pieces.

Last year I restored a 1954 Delta Rockwell drill press, and right now I'm working on a 1943 Hendey lathe.

Will update later this evening, gonna be busy for most the day.

Here is my 1954 17in Delta Rockwell drill press. I picked it up for $100, and have about $180 of materials into it between a new motor, paint, a couple parts, etc.

Progress on the lathe is coming along great. Got the final (3rd) coat of paint on all the small parts laying out yesterday, so about 85% of the lathe is painted and ready to be put back together.

Here is a bunch of random photos, in no particular order. Just something to show the progress I've been making. If you have any questions about anything feel free to ask.

Nice work! I enjoy watching the old become new again. They don't build tools and machinery like they used to.

You are correct about that. This beast weighs close to 3000lbs. It was bought and owed by the USAF. I was able to get the original info on the purchase order of this lathe. I'll copy and paste it shortly.

Good stuff you have going on! You probably already know, but if used for production, the bed rails on the lathe may need to visit a precision grinding service such as Daniluk corp. prior to assembly if you are wanting to do precision work with it. Kinda curious now, do you know how to carbide scrape by hand?

The bed won't be getting a re grind, I've priced it and its way out of budget. The ways do have some wear, but it shouldn't be anything that will be detrimental to any parts I plan on producing. Everyone has told me these Hendeys can make really precision parts even if they're worn out. Once it's complete and running, I'll start scraping the bed a little at a time. This machine won't see a ton of use, but will be very useful when needed.
