I’m nearing 120k. I don’t know what spark plugs I need. I found a thread a week ago with an eBay listing of oem spark plugs. I can’t seem to find it anymore.

Also, does anyone know what kind of anti seize and what kind of grease I need to put on my spark plugs?

Watching. In the same boat here.

I've heard from family members that it's best to pay someone to do it; 7 years is a long time. If something goes wrong getting the old plugs out, it's on them.

Curious what others have to say.

I’d only get them from a dealer as I’ve seen what the counterfeit ones do inside the cylinder.
A dab of dielectric grease in the boot and some spray silicon for the boots if you’re fancy and you should be gtg.

Also not recommend to use anti seize on your spark plugs. It’s not 1979 anymore

I use antiseize on every plug in every vehicle and I’ve never had issue one. I’ve also never had to fight pulling spark plugs afterwards either. Use the copper one and just a light coating on the threads.

I’d buy OEM from a dealer. Second the dielectric grease on the boots. I used a very light dab of copper anti seize on mine and then torque.

    It’s not hard.

Agreed. Common sense dictates not slathering it on in gobs and not letting any of it get into the combustion chamber.

Mine were in for 14 years and 90k miles and came out easy. Use a shot of penetrating oil if they’re sticky.

I always use anti seize on old steel heads for spark plugs but NEVER on aluminum. Bad idea.

Yup, if you have a dry torque value and add lube it really increases the strain of the fastener. Much like lug nut torque and how adding oil can result in stretching the stud so far it snaps.

Some plug brands even say on the box the chrome plating is all the lube it needs. I presume it's by acting as a barrier between the aluminium head and steel plug to prevent corrosion.

Does anyone have the Toyota P/N handy for these? I found 90919-01191 but the description is a bit ambiguous as to whether it's Iridium (120k miles) or Platinum (60k miles).

Seems getting Denso 3421 from Rockauto may be the best option?

Thanks for the pic. Said a whole lot more than the item description on the toyota parts site said!

Should I replace the plug wires as well? I don't see anything in the maintenance schedule about replacing plug wires.

These engines have individual coil packs so they don’t have traditional spark plug wires.

That means they are expected to last forever and not replaced short of rodent damage?

Correct. If you need to replace anything down the road - it would probably be a coil pack but it’s rare they go bad. If you have a misfire that follows the coil pack if you move it cylinder to cylinder it would need replaced. Not considered normal maintenance IMO.

Denso iridium. Napa sells them. I’ve heard the NGK iridium works also if you can’t get a hold of Denso

for the ignition coil, I had to replace one on my 2000 Land Cruiser…at 225k miles. On trail too. And of course, it was #7, against the fire wall. Not super hard but having an OBD code reader helped diagnose. 1-6 are fairly easy. The two against the firewall can be a PITA. But unless you’re misfiring or it feels sluggish, don’t mess with the coils
