Almost a trivial thing but what's with Toyota not having passive auto locking? I know, Tundra has "auto RE-locking" which relocks the doors if you don't open a door within the set time after initially unlocking them. But it will not lock the doors passively after you shut the truck off and walk away. Not even as an option.

I have had this feature in my vehicles since at least 1987 with aftermarket alarm systems and natively in my 2016 Corvette as user selectable options. We have this RF enabled key fob that opens the door with the fob in your pocket, allows us to drive with the fob in our pocket, but when you leave the truck, all of a sudden you need to find it and fish the thing out? Or use the phone app? What a PITA.

Please give us this option, Mr. Toyoda.

I agree it would be nice if it automatically locked once the fob was out of range. That being said you know that you can just touch your finger on the front top corner of the door handle and it locks the vehicle right? No need to use your fob or phone. I never take my fob out of my pocket to get in or out of my truck, I just shut the door, touch the top front corner of the door handle to lock and walk away.

Sure, but when you are loaded up with stuff to carry that doesn't work. You have to stop to put something down, lock the doors, then try to get your fingers though all grocery or tool bag handles again. Or else wait until you get inside and use the app... or whatever. This isn't a huge deal. But it is an issue that shouldn't exist.

I’m sure everyone has different opinions on what works for them. For me, I like the way it is. I only want my truck locked when I decide to lock it. I would hate to have to unlock my truck every time I needed to get into it whether I was at home, or my camp, or even if I was doing something at a ball field or whatever. My wife’s car auto locks and I hate when I run out to get something out of it and need to run back in an ask for her keys. Between the keyless entry and app, I don’t see a scenario that I would be bothered by it or want it changed

I get that. But that is no reason to limit options for others. And I know it would never be you but you read almost every day where thieves go around and check to find open cars to rifle through. And they always seem to find some. Because people forget. But logic boards running a timer don't.

Even though I’m the type that likes my car to stay open when I leave it open, I do agree that there should be some sort of option in the setting so it can be customized the way “you’d” like. Sort of like the way it gives you the option to unlock one door or all doors when you hit the fob.

What really kills me about the locking system is the remote start. I’ve been dealing with the remote start issues since Toyota went push button in 2020. I know this has been beaten to death but I’ve never heard what the actual logic is on why they do this. The car is running, you need the key to unlock the door, you need to touch the brake to put it in drive, and the truck needs to recognize the key in the truck. Why does it need to shut off in between all of those three security measures????

IMO that is super silly, too. Makes no sense at all. All my other remote starts keep running unless the brakes are hit before the ignition is "on" from the key. Again, Toyota gives us no options.
