Has anyone had an issue with putting your truck in drive on a cold start and it almost feels like a slip or delayed engagement when accelerating before working normal? When I say slip I mean to say the truck moves, but very slowly while the RPMs increase then it will start operating normally.

Every day on the way to work out of my neighborhood for me. The hybrid system uses way more electric motor to take the strain off the trans and let the engine warm up some. The colder it is, the more pronounced the extra electric "help" is but never more than a few hundred yards as I pull up the hill out of my neighborhood. Super cool to me.

I also notice what seems like a lot of torque converter slip while the truck tries to stay in 2nd gear climbing my driveway. I can manually downshift to 1st and it feel "normal" or I can hit the gas a bit and let it pull though, but creeping at 5 mph it does feel like a lot of slip but I am also sure its not a reason to take it to the dealer as it was obviously (to me) designed to do that for whatever reason.

I have played around with this while towing. From a start the truck stays in 3rd gear and it seems to strain to get going and once it is moving along things are good. I pull the shifter over into manual mode and shift into 1st and the gearing seems to work out much better and reduces the struggling when starting on a hill especially with a trailer attached. I don't know why it starts in 3rd or if that can be changed but that's what I do to get around this weirdness.

Not sure this is the same….but I notice the first and only 1-2 shift for the day (when I first use the truck sitting overnight) it seems the shift slips between that shift. It only does it once, and only after sitting over night.
Is this the same issue others are having?

Yes. When I first put it into drive in the morning and press on the accelerator there is a slight slip going from 1-2 and then after that it runs great. It sits for about 8-9 hours while I’m at work and it’ll do it when I leave but not as bad as when it sits overnight.

Watched TC lockup function in realtime just yesterday, it is definitely not aggressive at all. AisinWarner car transmission from 90s locks it up much more aggressively. My 2019 Tundra locks TC mostly in 5th and 6th gear, sometimes in 4th, but only if the load is very light and I still keep my foot on accelerator.

What are you using to watch TC status?

So I tried the dealer and they said this is normal…did they give you the same explanation? Doesn’t seem normal to me…

I have not taken it to the dealer yet for this issue. I took it in not long ago because of a bad lurch I get on cold start when I shift from park to drive and they said that was normal.

I have an appointment this week to have them look at that slip. I’m having them check the transmission fluid level to make sure it’s normal.

most of the issues/annoyances that I’ve taken it in for, the dealer has come back and said “it’s all normal”. I have an extended warranty on it for this reason. But it’s still annoying when you have things like that slip that definitely does not seem normal.

Just an update... the sensor on the negative battery terminal died which controls our active grill shudder as well as a radar for cruise control; threw a check engine light. I took the truck in for this and apparently this sensor is used for the power train as well and was thought to be the issue of the 1->2 slipping shift first thing in the morning. Not sure if they did a reflash but I'm no longer having the slipping and I notice that the shifts are firmer.

Thank you for sharing this update. Unfortunately we now live in a world of sensors. :)
