He posted a video. Here it is . He says his keyfob still works, not sure about the remote start. He says Backup camera works fine also. It looks promising, I just know how usually over time those headunits have issues but I've been doing some research and most seem to like them. For the same price you can take a chance on a factory 14in unit on ebay, I just cant seem to find the vents for the things. I might take a chance on 3rd party unit though, all I use is Android Auto and it would be nice to have Youtube/Netflix for the kids at times.

He did confirm, the door locks and the remote start via the keyfob still works. He actually confirms the Toyota App still works so you can remote start via it still. I'm not sure how because I thought it used the sim card service to get the signal thats located in the screen. Maybe I'm wrong though?

Yes he confirmed via a video on FB. I still got lots of other questions, and I dont know if that will work with ALL the necessary features, such as lock doors options and lights, etc. Just not sure about it.
I messaged him to create another video for those options, lets see what he says/does.

Found this on AliExpress. Looks like none of the connectors in the back really match up with the OEM. Probably meant to act solely as an aftermarket unit that you connect cameras and everything yourself to. A plug-and-play solution would be way more ideal.

Full size image on their website.

So this issue has been solved. What you posted is an Android Headunit, not OEM but still works and actually gives you added benefits such as youtube, netflix and other apps.

If you want to upgrade via OEM and get the 14in screen, you can purchase on ebay for about $800-1000 but you must get the JBL version. Most likely, all 8in screens dont have JBL so you have to get the Non-JBL version for it to work correctly. Its plug and play, quick swap, and works perfectly. You lose the volume knob but its no big deal as the steering wheel controls still work as they should.

Can you please clarify your post? I currently have the 8in non-JBL. Do I need to buy the 14in JBL or non-JBL? I think you wrote it both ways in your post.

The eBay links no longer lead to active listings. Does anyone have part numbers for the 14" head we can search instead? Would the part number be different for different trim levels or even 2022 vs. 2023? Thanks for the great information in this thread.

Has anyone successfully bought the oem screen off eBay and confirmed it is just plug and play? I just got a 23 sr5 and immediately jumped the gun and bought the oem 14” and I’m scared i might have just shot myself in the foot. Any help is appreciated.

your best bet is to list it on ebay at a slight loss and chalk it up to a lesson learned. not condoning it but there is always a pt barnum relative out there :)

i am sure someone out there has more resources to get it work (aka jerry rig it) with either a tundra or have another use for it.

i have no idea as i would never have gone that route. if anything i would have gone aftermarket replacement first. dont think anyone is willing to be the test mule on this situation.

Aftermarket would be even harder to get working properly since so many of the vehicle's functions are routed through the head unit.

Interesting some guy has gotten aftermarket to function 100%, wonder if it's still working for him, review the earlier posts from the ig story

Correction: It'll work, but you'd lose the nav/music info in the dash screen if you care about that. You'd probably also lose the ability to change some of the config items, but most of them are available in Carista. I'm sure there's other functionality that wouldn't work as expected, but I couldn't tell you what that might entail. Bottom line - It'll work for music/nav/youtube/whatever, but isn't 100% compatible with every single feature on your truck.

The 14in head unit is plug and play, and the dealer should be able to do the VIN sync for you for their shop rate. After that, it'll work 100% with minimal issues beyond whats already known

thats if the dealership/tech is willing to do 3rd party oem HU's. some wont touch em if they didnt buy it from them. just how most dealership tend to be from my understanding.

i think he said ALL functions stayed functioning, and he still had toyota app, i dunno, I started asking him about his digital rear view mirror/dashcam integration and he was gonna do a writeup but I dont think he ever created/edited it

yea see post #63 above, something about toyota app still working? who knows since nobody wants to be another guinea pig lol

The communications module is not located in the screen, its in the overhead near the cabin lights. Toyota app and remote controls will probably still work since those functions don't pass through the head unit, just some of the settings for those features.

Replacing with an aftermarket head unit is feasible, but its impossible to guarantee that ALL functionality will work 100%. There are some settings through the head unit that can't be set via OBD.

Lotta successful reports on FB, so hopefully your successful too, it basically boils down to which head unit part# you are getting, some are and some are not compatible.

This will be my next mod, this and leather seats were the only things I wanted in limited, ez savings of like 3k+ when I finish

Also nobody reported of head units being blacklisted/disabled, dunno how real that is, basically first plug in and some features functioned some not, next engine cycle the head unit works 100%, this is super recent past few days of posts from like 2-3x diff ppl

Tbh it looks like ez mod, since the FB posts started going down where to get the ac vent covers

Yes OEM works fine, you just have to make sure to get the non-JBL part #s...i believe 360 and 361 are the correct ones. The only difference between them is one is manufactured in Mexico and the other is Canada.
