First one seems like a no brainer, but I couldn’t find anything on it and would like some sort of confirmation for emotional purposes. So my question is would a 2016 tailgate fit and line up with a 2021 tundra?

Second question is how hard would it be to transfer the internals between the two tailgates and what would be needed to transfer in order for my tailgate key and camera to be able to work.

    thanks

also if there’s any input on options for replacing or repairing damages those are appreciated. A big dump truck reversed into my baby. Doesn’t seem like crazy damage, but damaged nonetheless.

Yes, any 2014-2021 tailgate will fit the 2021. Unfortunately from what I’ve seen, these tailgates typically aren’t cheap.

You may be able to get away with salvaging your current tailgate by removing the rear access panel and popping some of that dent out and then body working the area with a hammer and hand dolly.

You’ll still have the crease and it will require some body filler though for sure to get everything smooth before paint.

Internals will swap easily, just simply unbolting them, removing the internals and swapping them over.

Looks like you’ll also have to straighten the bed where the reverse light was punctured as well.

    Alright thank you sir.

I’ve been looking for different options. If I go through a body shop the chances are the next available opening for repair won’t be for a couple of months according to the ones I’ve called so far. I’ve asked Toyota, they don’t sell the tailgate outright. But they do sell it in parts, the shell would cost roughly $950 and that’s without shipping(Hawaiishipping stinks) and would take 3-6 weeks to come in. I found a 2016 tailgate off Craigslist for $500 and that’s including the bumper, so if he’s willing to separate hopefully for a cheaper price. All I’d have to do is get that prep and painted, and fix that little bend near the taillight. At least those are my options right now. Ultimately everything is going through insurance of the guy who hit me.

Will consider those as an options as well. Thanks guys.
