The full synthetic (not sure what makes a filter full synthetic) Fram seems to be XG4386 and is $18. Worth $18?

Those are reportedly pretty good filters. Synthetic means that the filter media isn't just cheap paper. But I plan to stick with the OEMs for their proven quality and relatively low price. And no question about having the correct bypass valve (if these even have one). Oil and oil filters are like religion. These discussions and threads can go on for days and not really add anything. Use what you want but maybe not those cheapest WalMart offerings.

Yeah Toyota oil filters are a pain because they aren't sealed in the box and no markings on the filter itself

I can't recall anything on the filter proper, but the box was "sealed" via the part number sticker. In my case I ordered the 9091510010, and that's what the sticker said. Until I see something in writing from Toyota stating the YZZF1 is the same, I wouldn't believe the guy behind the counter telling you they are. Might fit, but probably something different going on inside.

Having just done the first change at just over 1k yesterday, I can say this is a really annoying setup... I can do my Outback without a drip on my hands, without having to put it on ramps. I could probably do this one cleanly, but that bloody air damn makes it about impossible to get under the front to get to the filter they managed to put in a really horrible location. I have to believe they could have put that in a better spot. I could see someone coming up with a relocation setup for that...

Filters - Decades ago (I know!) when I worked at NAPA we sold WIX as our premium filter. When we cut them all open and stretched out the filter paper, Fram and Purolator (don’t know if around anymore) were the shortest by a lot! WIX was over twice as long. Some didn’t have bypass valves either and who knows what pressure they were set to? I’ve used WIX for 40+ years and never had a complaint. Keeps the oil clean and clear for a long time. I see that WIX has two filters for our Gen3. A paper media filter (57145) and a synthetic media engineered for synthetic oils (57145XP). Both have anti-drainback valves. I had no idea Toyota sold OEM oil filters so cheap. So now I’ve gotta cut one of each open after use to decide.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
I really wanted to inspect my filter after the break in but I didn't have those fancy snipper tools so I just disposed of it :(

I did send in my sample to blackstone but haven't heard back maybe the ink rubbed off so bad they couldn't read shit and link it to my online payment.

I think they may be a little backed up. I dropped a sample in the mail on 08/17. Tracking on their website shows they received it 08/29 and status shows as "unpacked". No test results yet.

I’m anxious to see your reports if you don’t mind sharing. I’ve known of them for a long time thru motorcycles and friends with aircraft. Great service and love the online tacking against other vehicles/motors of the same vintage. I have their sample kit standing by for my first change. ((I don’t have the fancy filter cutter either but a dremmel with a cutoff wheel works great))

My concern with a dremel was introducing debris into the filter. I will post when if it ever gets linked back to me. I was very conservative with the break-in per the manual as it is my first new vehicle ever.

Hold the wiper up for about 5 seconds after you turn the truck off and it lowers the air dam..

I will definitely post mine once I receive it. I just got a filter cutting tool and did pull apart the last filter I changed which was at roughly 1700 miles usage, 4200 miles on the truck. Very little debris, a few tiny specks here and there, as expected for the 3rd oil change on a new motor. Pic attached of the filter I pulled apart with 2 of the small metal flakes circled. It was the OEM 90915-10010 filter.

I did not pull apart the filters from the first 2 oil changes. The first one would have definitely been interesting to see.

I believe the F1’s are a smaller oil filter. I have several in the garage on my shelf, I’ll have to look at them. They would most likely install and seal okay, but the filter media area is probably less and maybe of a differing design. Also the bypass valve may release at a different pressure. I can use an F1 or F2 on my 2-ZZ engined Corolla, but they aren’t the same filter…

The F1s are actually bigger... taller anyway. And my dealer sells them as an alternative for Tundra when they don't have the 90915-10010. Interesting also that if you search Amazon for the WIX 57145XP it provides the F1 as an alternative. There is really no reason to use F1s if you can get the official one, but I used one my first change and it worked fine.

How bizarre... Seems like the "2 choices" for the OEMs? IDK. It'd be interesting to see all 4 filters in one photo for comparison.

Just watch ordering any filter that are OEM from places other than dealerships, guy from car care nut YouTube Channel was showing some OEM filters that he ordered on Amazon and ones he got from dealer, he showed how to notice the difference in the packaging and filter itself.

Thank you both. I would go to the dealer to purchase but according to their website they don't have a parts department. They might in person but it is a 30 minute drive in a direction I do not typically go.

The WIX filter lookup page shows 57145 for 2022 thru 2023 and 51348 for 2024. Could the spec for the oil filter have changed for the 2024 models?

This is true, I don't believe you can buy the OEM filter. I also was told if you have the dealership change your oil, you will get the YZZ filter. Approved part by Toyota made by another manufacturer. Oil filters are not the only part they sublet out to another manufacturer to produce for them after the original build... Probably get those parts if the dealer does work on your car too.....

    Order them off ebay or
Amazon from listing Toyota Dealers. They will be original manufacturer product as installed. Not dealer installed with their oil change. I ordered and received 5 in oem identifying boxes. Box lable and inked ID on filters matched initial filter I removed at first (1800 mile) oil change.
