OPT7 running board led sequential switchback light

I am having a hard time trying to find the reverse, turn signal, and courtesy light wires on the side panels. Has anyone done this mod that can help? “OPT7 Led running board”

Buddy of mine installed these on his '19 and we also had a devil of a time getting them to work as there's very little out there regarding which correct color wires to tap.

Ultimately, we ended up tapping into his headlight wiring and for the courtesy light, we tapped into the cargo light wiring.

I have these on my 2010. After much trial and error, I pulled power for the turn signals by tapping into the taillights. Courtesy was from the cargo light wire under the driver’s side sill panel, and I used a Curt trailer plug accessory to get a spot for the reverse. I know that’s in an old thread somewhere - let me see if I can find it.

But wait, you want reverse for your running board lights? That Opt7 should have solid amber for running, sequential amber for turns, and solid white for courtesy. Not sure of your plan for reverse.

yes it is what i am trying to figure out right now, im trying to tap into my headlights because i have after market led tail lights

 

You lookin to have your light strips to come on when you go in Reverse?

 

yes, it’s all so complicated i dont want to tap into something im not supposed to and mess something up, i might just take it to a mechanic to install these led strips

 

Let’s get some clarification first. You have a lot of options here.

Reverse is for back up lights correct? They will illuminate when truck is out in reverse.

Blinkers is simple too, left side flashes with left blinker right side flashes with right blinker.

Courtesy lights, what do you mean exactly here? Do you want them just or light up when the truck is unlocked from the key fob or when the door is opened? Like puddle lights in the mirror?

Or do you want to them illuminate any time the headlights come on?

I assume you have 3 signal wires and 1 ground going into the lights?

If you could snap a few photos that could help.

 

Yes, when in reverse the led will illuminate white, I also want to wire it so when i unlock or open the door it lights up as well, along with the turn signals, im not too much of a fan on having them wired to be on while driving, just when turning, reversing and opening the door

This should help. I would do some inspecting on your truck and make sure you can locate all these wires. Then start attaching things. Go step by step and test it as you go.

how do i test the wire to make sure its the one i want to tap into? for ex a turn signal wire

 

Volt meter set to 12v DC. Put the red probe on the wire, the black probe on ground.

If you get 12v it’s on, 0v it’s off. All these wires are the 12v power signal to the bulbs.

 

Use a posi-tap on the wire, take a test light and clip one end to ground, touch the pointed end to the metal part of the tap, then turn your blinkers on making sure your key is in ACC position. If it's the right wire your test light will blink
