My 3 year old is infatuated with trains. Namely Thomas (of course). Last October we took him to Grapevine where the Day Out With Thomas tour was for the weekend. It blew his little mind. I've never really thought about trains all that much but I must say that his interest has been turning into mine and now we are on a Flying Scotsman kick. I suppose we'll be adding that to our collection of Thomas and Polar Express train sets. Harry Potter's train is also on the horizon.

Here's a small pic dump of our time in Grapevine.

The Gaylord Texan is the hotel we stayed at. They have an amazing train setup inside where people from all over come to take pics. I believe one of the local train enthusiasts clubs keeps it goin.

We were told these stained glass windows were original and this particular passenger car was refurbished from its hundred year old original state.

Pretty cool. If you think about the amount of work trains do it’s mind boggling.

That's really cool! I wish I would have known about it - my special needs brother-in-law loves Thomas the Train. He would have freaked out to see it in person.

I love train documentaries. There are a couple of excellent ones on the Flying Scotsman and how it made a USA tour back in the late 60s.

It was a stroke of luck that we found out about it. We follow a guy who video blogs his life with his son and they went to a Day Out with Thomas. We searched for one near us and hit the jackpot with the one in Grapevine.

I'm gonna have to start keeping an eye out. This would have made his year.

They had a sweet lift setup to accommodate wheelchairs. We saw a family use it and the conductor who helped them get on was so helpful and kind. The gentleman in the chair looked to be in his late 30s and was kinda loud but everyone treated him with respect. The conductor engaged in conversation with him and had him laughing.

That's really cool - I coach Special Olympics and they are some of the greatest humans on this earth. I'm lucky to have my brother-in-law. He's independent enough to live on his own but still needs help with other stuff. Super grateful for everything.

We definitely haul a whole, whole bunch. And, if it's too dangerous for the roads, it gets shipped on rail.
Trains are literally mega bombs rolling through huge cities. Pretty scary actually

Yes. Very much so. The interest led to a design for his own award within the Trail Life organization. He had to develop the award, get it approved, and then execute the steps. He is about finished up with it and it has taken him about two months to do.
