Anyone else’s Tundra come with PPF film?

So when I got the truck it has the PPF or 3M film (not sure which) on the hood, door edges, as well as under the door handles. Over the last few years the seal seems to have broken and has like an orange mildew under it. Does anyone else have this? How can we figure out if it’s covered by the company’s warranty?

    thanks.

Mine has the exterior inner door handles and front lower rear fenders, but not colored mildew. Not sure it was a factory or dealership add on?

Peeled off the SX stickers from the bed sides. Tyger running boards. Softopper
Mine has some clear film on the lower front of the bed, tight behind the cab. One came loose and was flapping in the wind on the way home from the dealership.. new truck. The other one is still there and looking good after a year and a half.

I think it might be a dealership add on. Wonder if the manufacturer would cover it. If somehow I can identify what was put on.

The last 5 toyotas I bought has this on them in common scratch/ding areas. I usually pull them off when they start to look bad.
I get the idea of it, but I really dislike them. Also makes it a royal pain to wax the vehicle

Just peel them slowly. They leave a little residue but it scrubs out easily with some soap, water and a Microfiber. I'm sure a heat gun or hair dryer would make them leave a little less residue behind

Mine has it on the door edges, behind the handles, and on the bed sides in front of the tires. One of the bed side pieces is starting to come off and the stuff on the doors is looking bad. I plan on removing it all before the next detail/wax.

just removed mine and got the residue off on about 30/40 mins. Used some mckees wax remover for plastic for the residue. Looks way better without it.

Lots including clear bra on my truck, dealership add on that I didn't pay for (could be argued). Waxed frequently since new and it still is in great condition. I never pressure wash my rig, might make a difference. YMMV

Definitely a dealership add on, my good friend who does vinyl wraps and clear ppf does dealership work all the time. Use a heat gun/ blow dryer to help remove them, mild dish soap will take off the residue with a small amount of elbow grease. Clear ppf is good stuff to have on your vehicle but not when the seams are leaking. I had a bunch of it installed on the wife’s rav4, door handles so nails don’t scratch the paint there o_O.. I also do the headlights of every vehicle I own. I pressure wash all the time, just blast in the opposite direction of the seam, not at it or straight down on it.

I have it on my 2015 Tundra Crew Max and it looks like crap. Mildew under all the edges and probably looks worse as my truck is white. It came with the truck when I purchased it new. I would never recommend it whatsoever. Likewise, I have to take it off.

My last Tundra was a '00 it had those in front of the rear wheel well. Over time it turned to cement almost. Saw a Tacoma with them too and had done the same thing. When I got my current Tundra, I peeled them off immediately. Did the same to my daughters car too. Over time they just wind up looking termming.

I’ve removed it everywhere on my truck except for the headlights. As mentioned every vehicle I (will) own gets clear ppf on the headlights. Clear pff has come a long way tech wise, much more UV resistant and will last you a lot longer. If you’re using a modern, quality product and your installer knows what they’re doing, clear ppf is a wise investment imo. My friend wraps entire cars with clear ppf, lambos and such.

Soap and water and little elbow greese my butt. Lol I had to use goo gone and some 3m adhesive remover took about 30hrs total. Oh and some plastic scrape blades. It sucked my truck is a 2017 it only last 5 to 7 years.

For removal, try using a hair dryer or heat gun on low setting. Start pulling it up and keep it warm to hot as you pull it. This will probably get the remaining adhesive after removal of the film very sticky.
As Bigmax mentioned you’ll need adhesive removal to get remaining adhesive off your paint. Iv also used Zippo lighter fluid to break down adhesive, WD-40 works too and won’t damage your paint.
If you use a heat gun be careful around plastic pieces, trim and headlights.

I’m lot sure who installed mine but I have it on the front and bottom sides on my ‘15 SR5 Crewmax, my buddy who installs this stuff said it lasts about 5 years and then it’s a bitch to take off. So far, mine is looking good but time will tell, I’ll just take it to his shop and have him remove it and do any paint correction necessary after removal. Probably worth the $200 to have a pro do it . I sure do love this truck though!

BTW, #powerboy, WAR DAMN EAGLE! I was born and raised in Geneva, Alabama, now I live in the great white north . Sure do miss Panama City and destin!

My '21 came with some PPF over the common scratch/ding areas. However, in speaking with relative who also install wraps and films, he recommended to have it removed and redone with a better quality brand PPF wrap like xpel. So, that's what I had him do. No complaints so far and no yellowing as of yet.

Dude youll be lucky to have someone remove it for $200. Depends on the time it takes same with paint correction. Probably charge $100 per hour. Im no professional but to remove the film and half a$$ed paint correction took me around 30 hours. Its not going to be 3k but 600 to 800 easy.
