Thanks! The clicking was driving me nuts, so I'm just glad I can finally get it fixed. My clicking sound ended up being the driver's side that had no foam or whatever, but initially I couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from at all. It definitely sounded like it was on the driver's side, maybe behind the dash or in the A-pillar initially, but I tore everything out and couldn't replicate the sound. Because it was clicking on the windshield itself, it definitely threw me off in finding the actual culprit.

Hope you are able to find yours soon!

Was it difficult to pull off the headliner?

Honestly wasn't too bad. I was nervous about messing with it at first, but it kind of just pops out once you remove the trim from the A-pillars, the sun visors and clips, and the sunglass holder/panel piece in the center. I initially just removed the trim and visors from one side and popped the headliner out, but started it started to crease a bit, so definitely recommend removing both sides before trying to pop out any part of the headliner.

I pushed up on the windshield on the drivers side near the headliner and that didn’t change the clicking sound coming from near the front drivers side speaker area. I am wondering if there is a clip on the bottom of the windshield that wasn’t installed. I have an appointment with my dealer on Tuesday but I am not holding my breath. When I made the appointment the service advisor couldn’t find any TSB’s in this issue.

Update on the clicking from my windshield, headliner, or A-pillar, which has finally been fixed. I took my truck to West Edmonton Mall Toyota today and wrote the technician a letter describing my noise problem in detail. They had my truck for a few hours, and repaired the problem on Warranty for no charge. The correction listed was to: "Drop headlining assembly and insulated headlining support assembly with noise kit. Re-installed everything related of headliner." What ever they did, it worked and I have no more noise at all, driving in -10 degrees celsius. They also applied "additional insulation to secure wiring" behind the A-Pillar interior trim panel. I have no idea what a "noise kit" is. It's probably technician code for glue, duct tape, or a piece of foam.

Any chance you would be willing to share the dealer and technician name and contact? I'd like to take my truck in and it might be helpful if they can contact someone who has actually solved the issue rather than attempting to find it on their own. Thanks!

I have this click noise too. It might be the windshield like some are saying. I noticed today when the sun hits the windshield just right that the windshield is cracked, just a little bit in upper corner drivers side. You can’t see it unless the sun hits it just right. I think the mount or something was too tight. Worried the crack will go across the windshield someday. It definitely wasn’t hit by a rock to cause it, whatever happened at factory appeared to cause this. Will have to take in at some point, hoping I don’t get runaround like is typical at dealerships.

It was West Edmonton Mall Toyota in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. There is no technician listed in the work receipt, but the customer service lady was Cindy.

How does the sunglasses holder/control panel in the headliner pop out? I'm trying not to break the damn thing. But I gotta get up there and fix this noise.

EDIT: Figured this out. holy hell there are all kinds of things up in the headliner that could be making noise. Time to go on a wild goose chase.

Having the same issue in my 23 Tundra. Took it to the dealer a couple weeks ago and read the "fix" to the service writer and the tech. He only removed the driver side A pillar and added some insulation there. The problem still exists. It is literally driving me nuts and has me not looking forward to driving. I may try to shove some backer rod foam up between the windshield and headliner.

Any updates on this? Finally fixed a rattling that I thought was coming from my door, it was actually the piece of plastic under the driver's footwear sagging and tapping the top of the gas pedal. I fixed that, and since it's started getting cold I'm hearing the tapping from my upper windshield area. I cannot seem to make it stop by pressing on the windshield, but I'm confident it's coming from the area yall are describing under the headliner.

FWIW when I had my mine in for scheduled maintenance, I asked the service writer to check into the creaking/popping/rubbing noise from the driver a-pillar area, he told me his tech thought it was the window run. They've had several complaints, same issue, and have ordered replacement parts for previous customers, but the replacement parts were so bad, they either made the problem worse or they didn't even install after looking at them. Service writer said to wait and see if parts quality improves or Toyota releases a fix.

My new tundra started making this creaking noise when temps dropped. Removed a pillar and speaker cover. The wire harness under the a pillar would creak when wiggled at the wire tie mounts, so I placed foam under them. Still creaking. My noise sounds like it’s at the base of the dash where the windshield meets.
For those with the issue being under the headliner, does the sound travel down the windshield? Or was your sound more up high? It’s driving me absolutely nuts

This noise just recently started in my 23’ Limited. After a trip to Created Butte, CO, temps would get in the teens, I started noticing it. Now it’s progressively gotten worse and driving me crazy! I’ve been holding various parts of my dash, seat and floor trying to figure out where it’s coming from. I’m going to try a service appointment. I’ll update after…

Any update on this? I’ve got a clicking, popping sound either in the A pillar or speaker area on my 23. Taking it in for its 10k service soon, will talk to the dealer.

I did a little more digging and it might be the plastic cowling at the base of the windshield by the wipers. I was able to stop 85% of the noise last trip on a woods road by pushing and adjusting this cowling. I’ll have a closer look when I get time.

I had a 2012 ram new and under this cowling there were 2 tabs that had what looked like hot glue that was used at the factory to hold the windshield in place. The cold shrunk the glue and the plastic tabs would make noise against the windshield. Takes time to figure these things out.

Interesting. I drove to town today, my truck had a ton of ice and snow over that area and I still had the noise. Only when the suspension traveled over bumps. I’m going to pull the headliner and A piller cover this weekend, check that clip and the wires in the headliner area.

We just got back from a road trip. The clicking noise was driving me nuts, but I think I may have narrowed down part of the source.

When I press firmly outwards on the top left corner of the driver's side of the windshield, I can pretty much eliminate the clicking noise. This suggests to me that the noise, at least in my case, has something to do with the glass of the windshield. That would make sense due to the noise occuring only in cold temperatures, cold having the effect of contraction on glass. My theory is that either the glass isn't properly seated or that there's a mounting pin or clip coming in contact with the glass.

I'll be following up with my dealership when I bring the truck in for the fuel line recall, probably in a few weeks.

    I think you're correct. See here https://www.tundras.com/threads/anyone-have-a-creaking-dash-video.135650/#post-3456242

Also, note this had a TSB for older models. See attached.

I'm really hoping this provides some relief.

It’s your temp tabs that are installed at the factory. The glue hardens or contracts in the cold and creaks.

Thanks gents! I'm gonna take a look later today to confirm then have the dealership remove the tabs if possible at my next service appointment.

Since you have a Canadian trd off road, go directly up from the red line on the steering wheel when it’s straight, this is where my tab was. I used this straight plastic trim removal tool to force into the glue, push hard. Feel around and you’ll know when you’re in the glue/tab as the tool won’t go in very far compared to when you’re not. Also no need to worry about dealer messing headliner up.

I have since rotated the orange tool out of sight.

I'll do that as a temp fix. My dealer is pretty good and I'm not to worried about them messing up the headliner so I'll have them fully remove the tabs in the near future.

    THANK YOU!!!! It's fixed!!!!

@Northern Toyota and @graf_von_tundra , you guys are awesome. I have a trim tool wedged in there for now, and I'll be making a service appointment asap to full remove the clips. :D

Praise all the dieties. I can now love my truck. I liked it before, but that clicking had me dreading driving in the cold. This is such a huge relief. I love this forum.

the level of satisfaction after wedging that trim tool in there and driving a silent truck was off the charts for me. I as well hated driving my truck listening to the clicking sound!
