I'm looking to replace entire AC/Heating system in my home and would like some feedback from anyone in the business as to what brands to go with. I'm leaning towards Carrier, Trane or Lennox but I'm open to suggestions. I'm looking for quality, not the cheapest.

I live in TX and have the original system (24yrs old) but would like to replace it with something that will theoretically last for another 20yrs

Only wanting a single stage A/C system and I have a gas furnace

    Thoughts???

It’s not the equipment, it’s the installer. You could have most top of the line equipment but a bad installer can make it run highly inefficiently.

With that said I’d get a Carrier or trane. Also now would be a good time to look at your duct work, windows, doors, etc for max efficiency.

I'd second Carrier. We've had our system since 2008; and aside from a blown capacitor, it's given us absolutely no problems.

One other thing you can do (I think) is contact your local electric company to have them do some sort of efficiency check - or even pay to get one done. They spent a few hours crawling around the house with an infrared gun, checking airflow near windows, etc., and made a ton of recommendations (many of which we've done). One of the simplest ones was to have extra insulation blown into our attic. It made a HUGE difference in the 'feel' of our house, and it probably dropped our electric bill $10 or so per month.

I’m a HVAC guy. Carrier if you can afford it but there ain’t nothing wrong with Goodman (just loud)… They’re made down the street outside Houston, so you’ll see a lot of them around here.

    York as well.

I was a fan (get it? ;)) of Carrier until the moved production to Mexico.

You want it to last a long time? Just maintain it regularly.

Another vote for Carrier. Bryant is also a Carrier company. As said above maintenance is crucial. Many folks never even clean out the condenser and don't change filters nearly often enough. Both of those run their systems into the ground and raise their utility costs. It's not rocket science!
