I read on the inter webs that running the 6112 at the highest setting will create stiffness so assuming that is true would anyone recommend running them at the 1.9 height and then adding 1/2 inch of shims to get a better ride?

Second ? Am I overthinking this lol?

I just want 2.5 in of lift up front and maybe 1in rear and run 295/70/18 tires.

Agreed - you'll have better ride quality running them @ 2.5" and no spacer.

Your other option would be to get some 5100s and get a 2.5" lift spring, leave the Bilstiens at stock setting. You still get the lift and you're not preloading the hell out of the springs.

I've been running 6112 at top setting with 1/2" shims for a few months now. Ride is better than stock overall but a little stiffer than I'd like. This setup got me 3.5" total lift up front which is more than I needed. At the next opportunity I plan to disassemble and run on the 1.9" setting. Should put me around 2.5-2.75" total lift with the 1/2" shim. If you don't need more than 2.5" front lift, I recommend against sacrificing ride quality. Also, even with a front diff drop kit, the CVs look nearly maxed out right now. I'm running SPC UCA which I knew would be necessary. At 1.9" you should be fine with stock UCA even with the addition of 1/2" shim. Hope this helps!

@AKJ78 thats exactly what I wanted to hear. I want to lift the least amount possible to fit the 295's and to also get the best ride possible. Maybe the 1.9 setting on the 6112's and 1 coach builder shim per side. That will put me right over 2 inches and seeing that the Pros are running 2 inches and a lot of those guys have 295's I should have no problem.

I also don't want to have to change the UCA's.

Do you think a diff drop will be required with the above set up?

Diff drop not necessarily required, but I recommend installing it. It's inexpensive and a quick easy install. Good insurance against premature CV wear.

If you want 2.5 put the 6112's on the top setting. The ride will be fine, but be prepared for the possibility of needing ucas. 1.9" is close enough to 2". The only reason you would want to add a shim would be to get 3" lift. That's what I was going to do. But then I downsized the tires. Then I got the spc ucas.

This was something I have considered and always questioned about the "adjustable coilovers". Are those wrenches merely adjusting the spring position which is what sets the "lift"? Are they affecting pre-load (or tension- not really sure what to call it, sorry for the ignorance) on the shock absorber at all?

Also, could you run those OME 2-2.5" springs with 5160's (for the reservoirs) or are 5160's rear only? It doesn't specify on bilsteins online catalog.
That might be a cheaper way to get a poor mans trd pro suspension (yes I'm aware of the tube diameter difference).
Also tagging @Sean266 @ColoradoTJ @jberry813 for their expertise.

As far as I know, OME coils (612, 614, 613) work only with OME shocks. I know that Tacoma people use OME coils with Bilsteins, but they are using different (softer) springs. Also I read that perches for these coils are different.

If you are interested in 3 inch lift, why not just go with OME 612 and OME shocks for 3 inch lift? OME shocks aren't that much more than Bilsteins. It's the coils that add to the expense. I definitely do not recommend 613 (longest coil) unless you have a very heavy front bumper.

With 3 inch lift (612), you probably won't need a set of UCAs. I have 3.5. inch lift (614) and went ahead and got a set because I didn't want to do the installation twice. Some guys with 614 were able to align their trucks with stock UCAs but I didn't want to take the chance.

You're over thinking this setup. 6112 at top setting will run a295-70-18 all day and ride like a champ. You don't need to re-engineer the system by adding shims. You're manipulating the shock travel wise which at some point become uncomfortable for you. I did this truck for a customer and it's PERFECT

Totally agree. ^^^. The OME coil springs should only be used with OME shocks. I went with the 614's. 613's too stiff unless you have a super heavy duty aftermarket winch bumper.

That looks pretty epic. Assuming 18x9 wheel. What offset if you can remember?

@Hattori That is good to hear. What did you install on the rear of that truck?
Could I fit the 295's at the 1.9 setting with a +30 backspaced wheel?

This truck was a 18X9 +18 Method Mesh on Nitto Ridges. Truck also has 5160's in the rear with a Icon AAL with stock shackles.

+30 on that tire might cause some rubbing issues on on the UCA. Not syaing that IT WILL but there's a possibility. It'll reduce the need to do a CMC but its gonna be close. That truck in the pic kept the mud flaps and no CMC was needed. Kept the stock UCA's but he's upgrading them later on down the road.

The perches are the same. As long as the spring rate is similar or the same you should have no problems, right?

I'm basing this off a bunch of research I did into going this route on a 4runner. A lot of guys have this setup and are reporting good results. Talked to the pros @ good 4x4 shop and he said it would be fine so long as the spring rate is reasonably similar.

If this is totally wrong I would love to know - definitely don't want to make the mistake of spending all that cash and then breaking something.

I would put one shim under the drivers side CO and put the shock where you want it in height.

Remember, on this shock, anything over the second setting you need to do bumpstop work.

Personally, I really liked the ride of the 6112 and I had them on the .75 setting, or the lowest. However, if I wanted 3" of lift and do it right...King or ToyTec would be my first call depending on my budget.

I'm thinking you are correct on this. All about spring rate.

What got me looking in to this option is a guy on 4runners.com (sister site to this one) who is running Wheeler branded coils on Bilstein 5100s. I took that to mean that OME springs would work as well. I do see some instances online where people are claiming to use OME coils and 5100s. I'm not sure how accurate this is and now I seriously doubt the validity of this configuration, if only because the perches may not be compatible with OME springs. For this reason if I still do go this route I'll be sure to use the Wheeler's springs instead of the OME springs.

Thanks for bringing this up, It very well may have saved me time and money. Two of my favorite things.

I think I am going to try the 6112 at the 1.9 setting with one shim for the drivers side and 295's. From what I am reading with the correct wheel offset clearance won't be a problem.

I ran bilstein 5100's with OME coil on my 15 Taco and got about 2.5-3" lift. Great budget lift. They were actually paired together and recommended by headstrong offroad as well as tacomaworld. Now, that does not mean that they work well for the Tundra, just that they did for the Taco. I've heard great thiongs about the 6112's and will consider them when my Pro suspension wears out.

Nice - I read the same from many Tacoma and 4runner owners... I just assumed the same would hold true for the Tundra.

You’re right! I see everyone wanting to lift but be comfortable. I can totally get that, but I like a truck to ride like a truck. The factory suspension felt like wet bread! I run my 6112 at the top and run a LT tire which makes the truck very tight.

6112 at top setting. If you shim, shim drivers side and passenger side. Drivers side lean is a myth. I used Bilstien 5160 in the back with a sway bar and Coach Builder #3 shackles. Quite over thinking the preload crap. If you shim change the UCAs. If you don’t shim don’t change the factory UCAs. It’s that simple. There are people on this site that over think a tenth of a gallon of gas.some drivers live in the hills some live in the flat lands. There is no way to compare the mileage you should get from truck to truck. From what I’ve gathered from this forum over time is that Bilstien is a great product. The CLIP is dependable. Simple as that. Seems like there are a lot of issues with some of the prestigious manufacturers other than Bilstien with a huge amount of money spent on premium equipment that is way overkill.
