Sounds like is a fairly stock power plant.

“Thanks to the competent production version of the Land Cruiser 300 twin-turbo V6 engine, the team could work with the engine in stock form. The standard Toyota turbos are used, as well as a standard intercooler. The orientation of the intercooler is different for the race car, but the part itself remains stock, as it is inherently highly efficient.”

SCORE has stock classes, all that can be changed is shocks and the mandatory safety... :boink:

Dakar also has the T2 as the equivalent, however, that truck is not within this classification.

This could be marketing.... This could also be true. I just don't buy it.

I have been working on my 200 series a lot and spending a great deal of time on the Mud forum. Tried to find one thread title that mentioned turbo issues or waste gate failures in the 300 series section. There’s nothing. I think it’s safe to say that the issues are with IHI America, a different company that builds the turbos under license from IHI.

I bet these Dakar trucks even have the start/stop feature.

Yes !! If you’re racing to WIN.. (this most importantly includes bragging rights) whatever is necessary to achieve that goal is going to be attempted. You’re only cheating if you get caught.
Even in the local ammeter karting I delved into for 10-12 years, if you wanted to run up front you weren’t stock. The classes I ran were required a stock “appearing” Yamaha KT100 2-stroke. Post race tech could include a complete engine tear down disassembly, jug removal, case split, bearing inspection. Rod, rings, pins, illegal friction reducing coating inspection. Much more times than not this extreme wasn’t performed, but I’d had it done before going through tech. And I’ve seen guys completely disqualified for illegal engine parts and coatings. This was just 100% local and state kart clubs.
I’ll guarantee you Toyota is pushing and more than likely exceeding what is “legal” engine spec for this class…
Agreed entirely, these Dakar 3.4TT’s are completely differently built and blueprinted than the engines in production vehicles.

I think the resources available have described the turbos as the same design, made by two different companies.
