It feels massive sometimes too, especially when I'm trying to follow that FJ60 through some trails.

I added some traction boards and some additional diesel storage for the heater. I should be able to get about 5ish super cold full nights out of the heater now without having to get diesel.

Did a little camper maintenance today. Cleaned some of the interior out, replaced the water pump fuse that was blown, organized a few things and lubed all the zippers on the sleeping bag and awning bag. Also ran the heater for a bit to blow some crud out and make sure it was all still functioning. Hopefully getting out next weekend for some cold camping.

    PXL_20230108_231312109.PORTRAIT.jpg

I'm also tossing around the idea of replacing the rear camper door and tailgate with a single piece and a large door that opens to the side or barn style doors.

Did you ever make a battery warmer setup?

I still haven't messed with it. I figured if I'm using the camper and need all the accessory power I will also have the heater going and heating the space where the battery lives. It will discharge down to 0*F and we haven't had any long stretches of weather like that in a while.

I got a piece of gravel stuck in my rear brakes a couple weeks ago so I ended up needing to swap pads and rotors. The rock chewed up the pads and rotor both before I could get it all taken care of. I also installed a diff drop that has helped a ton.

    PXL_20230123_163744802.PORTRAIT.jpg

Also, on our last camping trip we had a gust of wind rip out guy lines out for our awning and break a couple of the arms. I'm working with OVS currently trying to get something done as far as fixing it or replacing it.

I have found shade sails work better than most canopies because the material is mesh vs solid. They take a little longer to set up, but they are cheap, lightweight, and effective. No, I don't camp in the rain. Just an option!

I love the 270 just due to how quickly we can set it up and tear it down. One of the biggest selling points was being able to pop it open on the side of the trail for breaks and keeping the kiddo out of the sun. I just need better stakes than what I was using.

OVS got us up and running again. They sent me two new arms and a new hinge bolt.
I also ordered the awning walls to add to it for extended camp spots and bad weather.

I had bought the same OVS Awning late last year and it that arm snapping at the weld happened to me as well.

Im thinking about switching mine up to their new 270LTE one, the arm design seems a bit different. My bed rack sits right below roof level so their regular 270LTE one rubbed against my cab so i had to recess it back about a foot off the bed. :(

I don't fault OVS at all for the arms breaking in my situation. A huge gust of wind ripped the stakes out of the ground and if the arms didn't break I'm pretty sure it would have destroyed the awning brackets or the camper side. I like the bigger awning and mounting it to camper makes it clear the cab by quite a bit. The new LTE awning is an awesome choice for bed racks for sure though.

I have added a bunch of communication stuff recently. I put in a ham radio, added a weboost on a folding mount and we also picked up a Garmin inreach messenger. Now that we have a kid I would really like a way to get a message in or out in case of any emergencies.

The area we live in and commute through has spotty service and so far I've noticed I can talk on the phone a lot further into the dead zones than I could before. There are still a couple areas where my phone won't work but it's a lot better than before the weBoost.

Very smart! An with the way things are going in this world I believe this should be my next focus. Which model ham radio and weboost did you go with? If you took the ham test, how was it? Did you take a course or self study?

How do you like that radio? I've been looking at the same one.

    I'll like the radio here : https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08XBPD81Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

The weBoost is the drive reach OTR

I haven't taken the ham test yet, just utilizing the radio for gmrs and frs stuff right now. I do plan on getting a technician license though.

For what I'm going to be using it for, it's perfect. I'm definitely not using it to it's full capacity but I have a few fire department friends that use them in their personal trucks and like them. They do complain about how slow it scans though.

We're also in the process of replacing the kingcamp air mattress in the camper. We love how comfortable the mattress is, but the large single piece is a pain to have in there full time. We miss the ability to move the panel around to make room.

We have a 4" thick sleeping pad foam being upholstered now with marine grade vinyl and we will be having some custom covers made for them.

These pictures aren't ours, but an example of what ours will look like.

Just tell her it's essential for the overall health and longevity of the engine. It's a snorkel now or a new truck sooner than later.

    Great looking rig!
Question regarding the awning, how is it attached to the Atlas? Did you add any special type of bracket or support where the arm pivots at the back corner?

I am using the AT overland brackets. They installed them for me. I am running 3 brackets on the side with the awning.

Our new mattress is all done. It's a little on the firm side, but it should break in a little bit. If not, the foam can easily be replaced. It ended up being 4" thick. We should be getting some fitted sheets made pretty soon.
