Hey…first post. Thought I would share how I added subwoofers to the JBL system. Not too much info out there for JBL systems so hopefully this helps someone. As far as I know there isn’t a wiring harness so you’ll have to tap into a speaker input. I chose the low level signal going to the sub. See pics…. Its very easy to get to. Just pull off the stock sub enclosure. Don’t worry if you break a plastic clip or 2…they’re pretty flimsy. Then you’ll find the plug going to the sub which has 4 wires (brown, green, black and grey). I carefully exposed about 1-2 inches of each wire and soldered my amps input wire there. The JBL sub is 2 channel which they designate as WF1 (brown + and green -) and WF2 (black + and grey -). I chose 2 kicker hs10s for my subs which have left and right inputs so I treated WF1 and WF2 as “left” and “right.” Running the power wire was fairly easy. I used the grommet in the passenger side fire wall and got power from the fuse box under the hood (see pics). Ground supplied by bolt behind the seat. I made a platform for the subs from 1/4 mdf and covered it in back carpet. Running the sub control was very straightforward but the only downside is that you need 2…connecting both with a 1/8 splitter does not work. I think it came out pretty nice and it sounds amazing. Way more bass than I need.

Thanks for the info and pics. Are you running the Westcott TRD Pro lift? How do you like it?

Yes running the Westcott lift. No issues so far. Truck seems to ride the same as before. Got the black anodized aluminum version (only took a few weeks) and can't even tell its modified. Its very high quality. Bought km3s since they run a little small but still rubs slightly at full lock on that useless safety bump. I did remove the bracket that holds the liner in place in the front wheel well and pinned it back using body clips I bought at home depot. That took about 20 min. You will also need to remove the front mud flaps. I did nothing to the rear and have about 1/2 inch clearance from the rear mud flaps. I may take it to a shop to cut off those bumps in the front wheel wells. Truck looks way better with 37s.

I am waiting on an mgm or solar Pro. Probably going with Baja Boss 305/70r18 which are 35.3” x 12.2”. Do you think I will have any rubbing with the Westcott lift?
Pumped about the slim Kicker 10” as I was originally going for the jbl 8” but the kicker seems like a better deal.

No shouldn’t have any rubbing at all. You’ll still have to make the mods in the front wheel well (pin liner, etc) but that annoying safety bump shouldn’t be an issue with 35s. Solar is very bright. I had mine next to one at the dealer and it was super bright…like orange. Personally I think the grey looks way better. But that’s just my opinion. Yeah I was originally going to get the jbl sub but its only like 100 watts with a 6x8 sub… Kicker is way more powerful. If you plan to install one then no need to make a platform…it’ll fit vertically right next to the stock sub. I had one installed like that initially.

    OP:
Did the "dc offset" remote power-on work for you (did you even try it?), or did you have to wire up the standard/separate remote-on wire?

    Thanks.

Forgive my ignorance but are there any plug and play options if you just want to replace/upgrade the oem JBL sub?

Just did this to my truck after seeing this thread. I went with just one sub in the factory location. Significant improvement over stock, and an easy install.

Did you disconnect, and remove the stock subwoofer?
What did you use for "remote ON" on the Kicker powered sub?

    Thanks.

I removed the stock woofer… it does absolutely nothing and I wanted to maintain the little behind the seat storage there is on the other side

When only using a single sub, would you use both JBL channels or are they mirrored? Thinking of adding one sub plus factory woofer.

No need for remote wire…sub will turn on after it senses a signal. Theres a setting on the side.

I used both to maximize the signal the kicker amp gets…probably mirrored but you never know. Yeah would definitely just leave the stock sub in place. Still provides bass and won’t interfere with the kicker sub…might have to change the phase on the kicker sub though which is just a switch.

Not yet that I know of but this is a pretty easy install especially if you just add 1.

I added a single sub and kept the JBL. There wasn't enough room behind the seat so I mounted it under the middle section of the bench. Built a little platform for it to sit on. That was the most time-consuming part since the floor is angled and uneven in that section. Turned out pretty good and wasn't terribly difficult.

Did you use both pairs/channels for input, or just one?
Did you test w/o the OEM sub (is there any point to keeping it active)?

    Thanks.

I used both channels- left/right. Though I'm not sure exactly how they differ since it's a single channel speaker. I did try unplugging the JBL sub, but felt it sounded fuller with it running. I may have been able to mount the Kicker sub in place of the JBL but that would have been a much bigger project that required removing the back seat. More than I felt like doing in my snowy driveway. I have a double cab and everything back there is a little tighter and harder to get to.

    Thanks for re:
I got my Kicker 2 weeks ago, but likewise, the weather here (NJ) is crappy and I'm in no mood to rush this in the cold, just to get it done.
I'll probably end up like you, with both OEM + Kicker subs on.

I’d be curious if it has full range. My guess is the factory crossover limits full range to keep the factory speaker from working too hard. Anyone know for sure?

I plan on running a kicker 800 watt amp and kicker rt loaded enclosure with passive radiator. I will also be adding a lc2pro line converter with accubass. My question to any that have done this is where did you get remote signal from? I’ve removed the sub and it’s barely noticeable. The new set up should be a lot better than what it came with.

The 400w Kicker sub amp I installed on my non-JBL system, turns on automatically as soon as electrical energy is received from the speaker level inputs. Since I did not have a sub to begin with, I pulled the full range sound from the rear door speakers before the OEM crossovers. The latest line of Kicker amps come with a remote signal wire, but you do not need it because of the ‘power-on’ capability through the speaker level inputs.
