Just got back from a road trip to western CO and southern Utah. Beautiful scenery. Someday…

I’m just waiting for CA to break off and go into the PAC ocean.

Ha, love the 4/10 flood factor. That’s bullshit. That house is on the OTHER side of a levee on the river. I’ve seen 2 major floods in Sleezeport/Bossier. You’d need scuba gear to find your front door. Beautiful home, but so big and overdone it’s kinda gross. Nothing exceeds like excess.

@ColoradoTJ we are running into the same problems here in Az trying to find qualified guys to work. Like you mentioned everyone sees the payscale and their eyes light up until they go to try and find a place to live. I know some plants have a constant opening posted because no one can afford to take it based on the cost of living here. California is infiltrating Az horribly as well and it’s sad to see. They don’t like their own state but then they bring all their nonsense with them. Anyway rant over.
I’m still looking to get out to TN or northern Alabama. Might consider Kentucky as well. Just need to find myself a position at one of the power companies out there.

    Yep. The power generation industry
has went down a path I never thought possible. Prices have spiked to almost make living here very difficult. My last gas and electric bill was around 175 each. Three years ago my combined utilities was 150 per month.

We just did a nation wide search for operators and hired five from out of state. Not sure how we tricked them into coming here with the cost of living and what was offered in pay.

The point was my utilities have more than doubled in a very short period of time (We have a very energy efficient home). Others in the area have been reporting 4-600.00 per month for a similar sized home.

Makes me wonder what your old place would cost now in Denver compared to your NY state home?

Fuel Oil is a very expensive way to heat a home. I couldn’t imagine footing that bill.

place in denver was just sold again a few weeks ago for less than what we sold it for a little over a year ago. it was a tricky property on a high traffic street with occasional gang issues.

place here is a third the square footage but about 1.5 acres and surrounded by an 80+ acre farm on two sides. nice, quiet and no mortgage.

removing fuel oil is on my list as is adding a pellet stove. i spread the cost across the year based on estimated usage otherwise it’d be near $1000/month during the winter.

The no mortgage is the way to be. Fuel costs no longer matter as much knowing that information.

That would suck if you had to sell the Tundra, but you have to do what you have to do.

Move to Erie Pa. Cheap housing, you can still buy a house for 30k, crime, 164 days of sunshine year, limited job opportunities, low wages, Erie has it all. Oh yea and did I forget to mention snow. With the exception of this year usually all the snow you can handle, and then some......come on down.
