    Hello,

    Ref: ‘18 Limited
Recently changed my stock mirrors to some aftermarket tow mirrors. Immediately the tow mirrors threw a bsm and rcta malfunction lights. Went back to stock and the same malfunction lights are on.

Driver side bsm light does not illuminate on start up.

    What I’ve done:
    Disconnected the battery- no change

Cleared the codes but they come back after a restart or cycle the on off functions.

Rechecked the mirror harness connection. No change

    Any ideas?
Is there a sensor in the mirror to replace?
    Doomed to visit the dealer?

    Thank you,
    James

Fuel delete mod Cup holder upgrade
Only indicators in the mirrors. Sensors are in the rear bumper, one in each corner.

Check the pins on the connection, maybe they bent or not sitting right.

So have you found a solution to the problem. I’m having the exact same issue. Was getting ready to throw stock mirrors back on to see if it would reset the malfunction lights for theRTCA and BSM but after reading your thread I don’t know what to do next!!!

Did anyone found a solution to this?

    2018 tundra sr5

After install aftermarket mirrors everything worked good for couple weeks but then I get the same issue as Stocky Balboa.

Bringing this thread back. I just installed some aftermarket tow mirrors and got the BSM and rear cross traffic malfunction. See dealer. On 21 sport

Update **** Did not fix it, I just turned on my headlights and my little yellow indicator came on, but not the running lights. Not sure what the next step will be, I just spent the afternoon running the white and grey wires for the spotlights so I can hook them to the cargo light.****

Nice looking mirrors. I just finished writing my review on Amazon. I had the same exact problem. I have a 2020 Limited, Double Cab and I installed Akkon Tow Mirrors. I received the same message. I found the fix of swapping the pins 9 & 18 (Toyota's) / 1 & 10 (Akkon's) made a quick repair. It fixed the issue and the message went away when I restarted the truck. I made the repair with the Akkon wire's because there was more wire than what was prior to the Toyota pin. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Final update. I rewired my pins back to the way they came from Akkon, and made sure I turned off my BSM and Cross Traffic before I turned the key and now they are working correctly, except of course the BSM, but I can live without that. Everything else works correctly and I'm still pleased with the way they look. Hope it turns out good for you as well.

Check your wiring configuration going into the terminals.

I used the same diagram when wiring and the pins actually match up, I wonder if there is a different in what Toyota is looking for and the mirror has as resistance for the BSM because it wouldn't accept it when and I received the error to contact the dealer when I first hooked it up. I'm just gonna ride without using the sensors.

I have the sanooer tow mirrors from Amazon. I have been in contact with company and they are working on a solution for the BSM rear cross traffic malfunction and trying to get them to send me their wiring configuration diagram so I can cross reference with toyota. Currently I have the sensors off.

My buddy and I just installed the Auto Boost Tow Mirrors on my 2018 crew max this past weekend. Same errors as y'all. We found that the BSM on OEM pulls .234 amps while the aftermarket tow mirrors only pulls .027 amps. When we switched the pins to make the running lights into BSM and the BSM into running lights the issues cleared. Now of course this doesn't help with using the BSM. But what we have figured to this point is we need to add more load or resistance to the BSM line for the trucks computer to register they are actually there in their pre check modes. Any ideas on how to add load?

Interesting. I installed the Boost Auto mirrors last spring. Worked well most of the time, but by fall I was getting intermittent BSM errors - about once every 2-3 weeks. The error would clear when I restarted the truck. I pulled them off and put the OEM ones back on in November and haven't had any errors since. I will reinstall them this spring, and assuming that I still get the errors I'll engage with the folks at Boost Auto Parts and see if they have any suggestions.

Same issue here. Just got done installing the Tow mirrors and I wired LEDs into the tweeter panel. The lights work perfectly after tapping the wires. From the dash when I turn on BSM, they do their initiating illumination and then turn off like normal but then the malfunction and warning turns on. Was anyone able to figure out if an inline resistor works?

21TRDLTD, No, I never did get around to figuring out if a resistor would work or not. Please let me know if you get a chance to try some things. Would love to know how to fix.
