RXT 2.5” RR CDCV SHOCKS Mounting Issue

Hey everyone.

I’m in the middle of getting a stage 9 put on my 07’ tundra.

Mechanic is running into an issue with the rear shock install. When we go to put the upper mount in there is no room for the top bushing and washer. Let alone the first nut. The angle at which the bolt sticks through won’t allow for it.

I called Icon and they said to not follow the order of events on the instructions. So we removed the lower bold and tried again. It still didn’t work and they recommended moving the axel up to find a sweet spot to get the angle right. Has anyone run into this before any have any suggestions?

Here’s a pic of mine when I had icons. The shock sits at an angle. The bushing should compress.

 

It’s been like 5 years since I installed them. If I remember correctly, I barely got the thinner lock nut to catch threads. Once I got it on, just tightened it up to compress the bushing.

 

Yeah I wish I got the piggy back shocks like what you show in that photo. The stud on top is a hair longer and the bushings are different. These bushings are incredibly stiff and aren’t budging.

 

Same here, I kept the lower mount loose and was able to get a turn or so on the bottom nut, then used a ratcheting wrench to compress the bushing to the correct height.

 

In this photo, is the shock shaft bolted to the bottom mount? If so, you could let the weight of the truck compress the "inner" bushing, I highly doubt the durometer on those things is enough to handle the weight without compressing. Installation of the rear shocks seems awfully complicated due to that strange shaft end.

 

In this photo the rear is almost at full droop and the lower mount was not in…I think we’ll try to put the lower bolt in and do what you said…weight should compress it some. It’s the offset lower mount on the shock that’s making it really off on the angle.

 

In that case, sounds like you're on the right path. Throw the bottom bolt in, start to lower (compress) the suspension and see if you can get it started.

 

Got it done. Mechanic ended up trimming the lower part of the upper bushing slightly. Would have preferred that didn’t happen but it’s gonna be fine. Truck drives great. Thanks for all the advice everyone!
