Been searching for a bit with no luck. I would like to set my scangauge up to monitor my alcohol content. Has anyone set this and know the Xcode?

My 2015 flex fuel has been really giving me some grief lately. I am planning on monitoring and resetting manually as I am well past warranty and have no faith in the dealers resolving. I am aware that the scangauge can’t reset, but I’m going to give the eBay cable a shot. Just gotta track down an old windows based laptop for that. Based on this pic, I assume that this would be my underlying issue?

Yeah, but wouldn’t it be great to integrate it into your gauges?

You ain't the only Toyota FFV with this issue. It's been a mechanic's PITA for years. My mechanic is a Toyota Master and he's tried to play with the numbers just to see what the engine would do and it literally did nothing. Almost like the PCM is operating on a subliminal program unbeknownst to us.

No doubt, it definitely seems to be a well documented issue. Just trying to take ownership and attempt to control my own destiny.

I reached out to scangauge and got a positive response. Here is the code and it is correlating with my other scanner.

Is there a TSB update for the FFV trucks that addresses this? I know there’s a fuel pump TSB / recall for the FFV’s.

Thanks, been looking for this forever! Surprised it's reading only 2% right now. It'll be interesting to see how well the calculations track when I switch back to corn drink in the spring.

i was able reset mine with the ebay cable. My truck was reading 86% and was having starting issues. SO far so good

I was able to use the techstream program with a newer laptop no problem. Just follow the download instructions and use virtualbox

Virtualbox is free virtual machine software that lets you install an operating system to a file and emulates a computer to run it. The virtual machine only has as much access to the host system as you give it so if you run into malware it is separated from the host. A sandbox, so to speak

This method worked for me as well after a day of fumbling with the cd. After reset procedure done, truck runs like new.

It’s also been a couple weeks and after the second refuel since reset, my scangauge shows I went from 0% to 11%. Truck still runs fine, but I expect this will be a routine thing to reset.

I can verify that scangauge xgauge works on a ffv that's working properly. I switched to corn swill a couple weeks ago and it went up each tank, first 40%, then 60%, now 67%. It doesn't just shoot the moon at 85% when it computes ethanol presence which is good.

Found a potential issue with the truck's programming for flex fuel with this gauge. UsualIy it calculates a close number. However I caught it staying at 32% alc across consecutive fills when i know for a fact it was over 70% actual from the pump. The old ultragauge still runs with the obd2 splitter so I switched that to display fuel trims and both a/f lambda outputs. The dumb thing must have been adding to the fuel trims during the alcohol learn sequence so ltft were around +25 to +28. That was good for keeping stoich in closed loop with no CEL but I didn't dare let it run open loop wot much because the lowest lambda I could read was .91. Comparing to gasoline numbers that would be like 13.5:1 afr. It apparently does not apply trims fully to open loop conditions so it was going lean. Usually in the past it maxed the lambda reading to what I assume is the limit of the sensor of about .82 in full rich open loop.

You'd never know without the gauges.

I filled with about 13 gallons of regular gas (so maybe 40% in there) and the alc number bombed straight to zero, but trims stayed huge. Burned thru that tank carefully and filled again. Still reads zero alc but ltft are down under 10. Gonna repeat again.

That explains why the truck sometimes felt normal but maybe a little more gutsy with e85 and then other times its such a big difference it becomes very unfriendly to tire life. It can't be good for the engine in the long run.

Just an fyi, I know I'm not the only one who has tried corn swill
