    Good Morning-

Has anyone ever successfully used the HYPERTECH IN-LINE SPEEDOMETER CALIBRATOR on their 2014 or greater Platinum Tundra? I have seen a few posts where people are having issues so I want to hear some success stories.

A couple of people were having issues with their Check Engine light flashing and shifting issues on their Platinum models. It would be a real shitter if this does not work.

I just asked the same question and someone posted a response saying they were sent an updated cable from Hypertech. I actually called hypertech and asked about this and they stated all of the cables have been updated.

Another member also posted saying he was having issues and the issue ended up being that there were several cables zip tied together and they would get pinched and pulled from the module. He said after he cut the zip tie off, he had no more issues.

I just ordered one and will post back with update.

FYI to anyone doing the install. Leave the cable that plugs into your laptop, connected to the module behind the dash. This way after you do the test drive and the speedo is off a touch, you can plug the cable back into your laptop without ripping the dash apart again. When complete just coil up the cable and zip tie under the dash near the brake controller. Hope this helps.

Its actually not that difficult, appears to be 2 screws to remove gauge cluster, plug in harness, run cable down.
This is a great tip which I learned the hard way.

Good to know. Will this also improve on the hard downshifting I have with my larger tires?

This is a misconception. The speedo calibrator does nothing at all to anything related to engine/trans etc. All it does is correct the speedo. I believe hypertech and bullydog etc do make a unit that tweeks the fuel curve etc, but the speedo calibrator ONLY corrects the speedo.

I would love to get one, but I don't think it's compatible with Mac.

Thanks for that info. I could care less about the speed change I just want to fix the hard downshifting.

I purchased the HYPERTECH IN-LINE SPEEDOMETER CALIBRATOR for my 2015 Crewmax Platinum in May. I installed it and had the check engine light came on and my display read that the Traction Control was Off. Disconnected, checked wiring and reconnected and had the same results. I called Hypertech and they sent me a new wiring harness. I installed it and had the same results. When I called back they told me that the Platinum trim probably has some settings that aren't compatible with the unit. Really disappointed. Did I just got unlucky twice? I have yet to see a post about this unit working with a platinum.

Well I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the recalibrator works perfectly with my platinum. I had no check engine lights or other dash lights. The bad news is that I was unable to find a tire size to even come close to the stock tire speed. I tried my current tire size but that showed on the dash I was going 45mph when gps and local speed radar showed me going 4 mph slower. I went higher and even lower but nothing would work, so unfortunately I am going to return it. On the flip side, with my current tire size, I am only 2 mph off my the speedometer. Ill just leave it as is.

Anyone interested in a calibrator before I return it?

Not sure why you had a problem dialing it in Rene. With the laptop plugged into the calibration cable, you can change the old or new tire sizes to within fractions of an inch and get it dialed in exact. If you are comfortable, that 2MPH is not much at all. Keep in mind that 2mph grows the faster you go. Just a ratio game.

I am not sure either. Im going to try again another day, there were other factors that made me revert back to stock also. Hopefully it works out.

Yea for some reason the instructions don't mention it but its a good thing to do anytime you mess with anything electrical. I disconnected the battery when I installed mine and no issues with it. I'd say just give it a try, no harm in doing it.

My thought was to disconnect the battery tomorrow and see if it helps reset. Im guessing now.

Yea hopefully that fixes it, saw somewhere else that someone had the same issue with their dash lighting up and disconnecting the battery for a few seconds fixed it.

If that doesn't do it then its back into the dash and checking all the connections but just leave the battery disconnected. Also hooking up the black module back to your computer/laptop just to make sure it didn't reset itself.

I recently installed the speedo calibrator in my 09 limited and it didn’t change the speedo at all. I’m about 8mph slow at 60mph according to the gps in my radar detector. Hypertech said it must be a bad unit and sent a new one. Getting the same thing with the new unit as well. I’m running 37’s but increased the tire size to 45’s and made no difference. I’m going to try disconnecting the battery to see if that helps.

My battery was dead in the morning, I gave it a good 25 minute charge at idle and the speedometer recalibrator seems to be functioning properly now after what became a natural reset. I drove it past a speed trailer and it registered 30mph on the trailer and the truck. No issues anymore!

Anyone know where one can find a decent install video? Or does someone want to make one? ;):bananadance:

I know others will be very appreciative!
