If the payout is close enough like that, it's a no brainer for me.

I found my tundra for 23 OTD with 25k miles on it. Only two years old.....everything was clean aside from a smokey smell inside and a couple small dime sized dents. Got an oxidizer and everything's just fine.
Had it been a 30k truck, I wouldve just gotten a new truck.

Every situation is different. Not saying I won't ever buy a new truck, just been my experience thus far.

$23K for a two year old tundra is an awesome deal. Rode with an Uber driver this evening who got a 2008 Tundra with 51K miles for $23K, he got a good deal too. I found the benefits of buying new when I was 23 in 1982. Haven't bought a used primary vehicle since. When I got my Tundra in 2013 I was thinking I would have to get a used one, but got a lucky break. The last 2013 on the lot, demo, $32K OTD. Score! Don't plan on buying again until 2033.

When I took my wife back to get the Grand Marquis I grabbed a quick snapshot of this.

While it pissed me off, I didn't go raise hell because I felt outnumbered.

    Love that market adjustment...LOL.

Jeep did that with the Rubicon TJ in 2003. Some new TJ's were going for 38000.00. I laughed and purchased a used one already built for a mall crawler for under 12K five years later.

I was pretty shocked how fast mine sold on CL, and with 5k in hail damage and bald tires, 89k miles.

Agreed. I tried to shop used in Virginia Beach, VA. It was insane. 2016 TRD SR5s with 25k miles, and smoked in, for 39k. I got out the door in a brand new one for the same price as some of the used around here.

I think the Tacoma and Tundra are decently priced when compared to the cost of new cars in general. Anything worth buying is pricy these days. The truck costs start to get insane quick with other brands though. I love the look of Sierras and for a split second, considered one, until I realized a decent trim puts them into the 60s.

My new 1975 F-100 4X4 with Ranger trim was right around $4K. Lots of stupid chrome, carpeting, no AC, cheesy AM/FM radio. Back in the day most new trucks I saw on the lot had very few options..like AC for example. You had to special order most options like limited slip/locker, engine size, trim, AC, color, you name it. Now most trucks I see are loaded with crap I don't want. My local dealer may have 1 or 2 base Tundras at best. Emission costs are a given but all the non mandated bells and whistles drive up costs considerably.

Want to add my 75 Ferd had the 351 Cleveland although some had Windsors. A 390, 400, and 460 was available too if I remember correctly. Times have changed.

I think the prices today are insane. I was happy to build mine for around $38k OTD plus a healthy trade and good down payment. This all means I should have it paid off in around 3.5 yes total if not less. I want to keep this for the long haul, because with the cost of vehicles these days, my money is much better off spent elsewhere

A gas-powered truck isn't too expensive, and I don't need rear seats anyway...

Rear seats don't add that much; it's diesel engines, government regulations, and luxury crap that makes cost go up. If my main concern was hauling people I wouldn't use a large pickup to do so.

Man they most certainly are! My wife and I will be purchasing a used Sequoia cash late next year or early 2019. Looking for something in the 75k-100k mile area. Since she wants to S/C it, there's no need to buy new, just freshen up the motor and trans if needed and go. What you get in a newer vehicle just doesn't make sense to justify spending that amount of money on. Problem is, most people aren't phased by being in debt and always either want to keep up with or entertain the Jones' and dealerships know and prey on it.

Most definitely man! She tossed around the idea of the 4 Runner but in the end she said since driving the 5.7 in our Tundra; she's hooked on power. Got NOS in her veins:burnrubber:

Nice! my wife drives a 4Runner and I will say the power difference is night and day. 4Runner also feels super small after driving my truck.
