Well my 1 year Drive Connect subscription expired today and I'm not seeing justification for paying $16 monthly to continue the service. The service for me has been spotty at best with periods of unavailability, inaccurate traffic notifications and unnecessary re-routes while navigating. There is no built in navigation without the Drive Connect subscription but Apple Car play and Android Auto are options that remain available. Anyone think Drive Connect is worth the asking price?

I have no idea what exactly you get with the Drive Connect package and am personally not inclined to subscribe to added extras but am I the only one who finds it somewhat amusing that people can drop more money on a truck than any of my first three houses cost and then quibble over $16? :monocle:

The $8 is the remote start and you can look to see whats going on with your vehicle. We have that just due to how far away we have to park from our car. It is nice to be able to warm it up from the other side of town while riding the bus over to it. Probably only worth like 4 or 5 tho.

At some point manufacturers will smarten up seeing the low take rate for connected services and start adding apple car play and android auto to the subscription services.

I pay the annual fee of $80 for the convenience. I don't mind after spending almost $50k on a truck. Plus I just bought a Corolla Hatchback for my wife as a commute car and that is on the same app.

I paid 87 bucks for the year. I have only used the remote start a handful of times In the last three years. I only used it for my kids.

The reason why I chose to use it is for convenience and security. It my third vehicle and I lose track of gas level and things like tire pressure. A few days before a big trip I look up that info and plan accordingly.

Secondly, many vehicles are being stolen right out of driveways here. I get an alert anytime anything is opened and anytime the vehicle moves. Doors, windows, and hood (I wish tailgate). Truthfully, if your vehicle is stolen you are going to want it back ASAP. I have see stolen vehicles returned to owners in terrible shape and the insurance companies deny claims because the vehicle is still operable. Eventually the owners win but it’s months of making payments on a trashed vehicle and typically additional lawyer fees…no thank you.

Additionally I have had my truck in for warranty work at the dealership and for modifications at a local mechanic. I can track everything they do with my truck. And if driven aggressively I have the evidence to call out whomever.

I respect that there are owners that see as a scam. HOWEVER, there are good reasons to have depending on one’s scenario.

I just wanna know where or in what decade a house cost less than $60,000. Unless we're talking about buying in a trailer park, which doesn't count.

flip to that is ridiculous that Toyota has joined other manufacturers in nickel and diming for so/so services (clunky software, etc) after charging more than your homes for a truck.

I think you're referring to Remote Connect, different service. Drive Connect is the cloud based navigation with assistant on the vehicle.

$80 for Drive Connect (cloud based navigation)? I don't see that price as an option. $16 monthly is the only option available in the Toyota app.

Late 2000's (2008, to be exact). Granted, it wasn't only $60K, but I paid a bit more than that for 1200 sq ft house, with a basement, 2 bedrooms, on 2.5 acres in 2008.

That's a good deal. Where at?

My parents paid $85,000 for a nice family home back in 1988, they bought it brand new. Current value is $1.1 million. Inflation's a bitch.

LOL. my dad said that when they bought their place they couldn't sleep because of the interest rates.

But let's use that comparison. A quick google search shows that a brand new F150 cost about $5000 in 1978. That's a little over 12% of your first home's value. The average house price in the US is $350,000. A $60,000 truck is roughly 17% of the average home's value. The average home price in Canada is $638,000, making a $60K truck a little under 10% of the average home's value.

Now add in the additional tech, safety features, power, fuel economy and capability of a modern truck vs one from 1978. Suddenly the truck to house value ratio these days doesn't seem so crazy.

The first of every month, I’d like for you to go into your back yard and light $16 on fire. Then come and report back about how much you enjoy doing it.

I think he paid 58 for it and gutted it. Total investment was just under 100k.

He is around the Skiatook area. He purchased 70 acres of really nice land for 120k.

Lots of work down there. He purchased a new Bobcat 760 and a tree attachment for like 115k and has been making money hand over fist clearing peoples land.

It's reasons like this that I wanted a 2017 and older model when I was shopping for my truck.

I don't need a spotty remote start that requires subscription. I can buy a better after market one for $200. I dont need TSS, but blind spot monitoring and parking assist is great. I don't need a vendor installed wireless charger, I can add one myself for far cheaper. Other things like the LED Headlights are easy to add.
