    Some stuff
So, I have a somewhat amusing story about this.

Many moons ago, we were living in Dana Point in a small beach house. I was driving a POS Isuzu Rodeo. Cared nothing for the truck. It was always filled with wet suits (wet and dry), surf boards, dive gear and camera stuffs. It sat out on the street. Under a large eucalyptus.

I went out of town for a couple of weeks for work. Bec never moved it while I was gone so it sat in the same spot the entire time.

When I returned, there was a pile of sap on the hood and right fender. It was about an inch high. Looked like one of those candles in a bottle at the cheesy Italian place with the red/white checked table cloths. It had run down the side of the fender and created a sap stalactite. It was crazy. It was amazing.

I chipped it all off and was left with a giant red stain. A slightly faded red. On a white truck. Over a dent.

Few days go by. I went for an early evening surf then met my wife and kids at Hennessy's. If you know Orange County, you probably know where. Anyway, I pull up in front. Board on the roof. Salt water dripping out of my nose and walk in. In the meantime, a waitress on the patio is giving me the total evil eye. Sit down for dinner and about 10 minutes later an OC Sheriff walks in. He looks around, sees me and walks right up to the table.

'Excuse me sir. Are you Sean Slavin?'
    'Yes'
'Would you step outside with me for a moment?'
    'Uh, sure'

So we go outside, he points to the truck and asks if it's mine. I say yes. Then he says he's making a welfare check because a concerned citizen (the waitress) had called saying there was blood all over a vehicle parked in front of the restaurant. I started laughing. He didn't find it amusing. I stopped. We chatted a bit and I explained what happened. He grinned, understood and told me to try and clean it up as best I could.

Few weeks go by and I'm getting gas. Stain had faded a bit but not entirely gone. Sheriffs pull into the gas station for a fill up. They both get out. One fills up and the other walks over to me.

    'Hey there. Everything okay?'
    'Sure thing sir. Why?'
'That's not a blood stain there is it?'

More laughter. My timing sometimes sucks. Went through the same conversation, got a laugh from the deputy and shook hands. Stain eventually faded away and I had no more welfare checks.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Goof Off. Its like goo gone but better.. great for removing leftover adhesive from debadging as well. Quick detailer removes the excess quickly too.

I noticed sap on my mom's car yesterday, there are three spots about the size of a quarter, pretty thick.

I can't believe how nasty that stuff is. When I think of said on a car I think a little bit, like small dots of tar, etc. This sap did a number on her hood. I'm going to try heating a wet sponge in the microwave and seeing if that will soften it up. It does make sense, I know whenever there is pure maple syrup from breakfast on things, hot water does the trick. Obviously what is on the hood isn't @Pudge 's delicious pure maple syrup, but hopefully it will break down the same!

I may give it a try tomorrow or next week, I will report back!

    Thanks @SouthBoundSteve

You could use a little acetone to remove it if the car has base coat clear coat it won't hurt it if you just wipe on and then wipe it off. You will find that the sap actually will raise the paint a little where bird shit will eat in to the paint.
