I’ve had the Pro Fox shocks on for about 2 weeks now.

Replaced OEM TRD OR shocks with a 3” spacer. I have CB + 2” shackle in rear.

I expected a big difference, but the new setup seems to have a lot more play in it:

    • Jumping on the rear bumper, truck bounces a lot more than it used to.

    • When stopping, the suspension/truck will rock 2-3 times before settling with no motion. Not terribly so, but previous setup has no movement in this regard.

    • Standing beside the truck if I push the side of the truck, you can visibly see the truck rocking for a second or two before it becomes still. Again, not terribly so - but way more movement than the truck had before.

I expected a noticeable difference with the upgrade and the truck does seem to handle untamed roads better now, but is the extra play in suspension when stopping, etc. normal?

I don’t think so. I do not experience any of what you describe. It’s just smooth, and it eats up bumps better the faster I go.

Who did the install? Is it possible something is wrong? Some pics of underneath your truck might reveal something…

I installed the rears, then wound up taking the truck to the dealership to get fronts installed, alignment done, etc. because I had a trip coming up and couldn’t risk the DIY project running over.

I haven’t gotten under the truck to check everything, that may shed some light on it.

Will post pics when I’ve had a chance, but appreciate your comment. Confirms something may be off.

Took a look and at a closer inspection, a lot of the “wobble” or rocking visibly appears to be coming from the tires. I laid on the ground and pulled the hitch back and forth.

Checked tire pressure and it looks like dealership let some air out of the tires, but even after airing back up there’s still visible movement.

Honestly, this could be the culprit and I just never noticed some movement until now.

Will take a drive later to see if the play in ride is gone.

I run the stock tires right now at 40 front 35 rears. Flat contact patch and feels solid

If you are running stock tires, I always felt pressure was low based on sticker. They wore more on sides from turning, felt squishy and unstable, try adding 3 lbs more, so like 33 front and 35 rear. Doing that when I had stock tires had them wearing and handling much better.

i can attest for the rocking/bouncing of the truck in my pro sequoia. when i brake and stop (mostly a lil more abruptly), the vehicle will bounce/rock a lil bit. the ride is smooth for me though and absorbs well.

I have KO2’s. Typically run them around 45, but had been let down to ~40ish.

Appreciate the insights and tips. Will continue to play with it.

Did the dealership remove your wheels for anything recently? Just wondering if they mounted them properly afterward. I'd double check those lug nuts, too...

FWIW. IF i jump up and down on my rear bumper it will bounce slightly before settling.
When I swapped out to TRD Pro I noticed a big difference mostly when taking washboard fireroads / rough roads at speed.

I assume they took off at least the fronts to install the shocks. Good idea - will check the torque.

Just got back from a quick lunch run, airing up the tires helped dramatically with the rocking/wobbling. Still there, but probably a 75% improvement.

Figured I’d pose the question here vs. starting a new thread. I’m still having the issue and have had the truck back to the dealership once to confirm the install was done correctly - which they confirmed without charging me. However they seemed to pushback on the possibility of the shocks being bad, despite the service advisor saying I shouldn’t be experiencing any of the symptoms I described.

Is there a way to prove/confirm a shock is bad? Besides the bounce test, etc? I get the impression the dealership is going to push back - although if it IS the shocks, Id imagine its be easier for them to get a Toyota specific part to replace under warranty vs. another garage - where I’d have to coordinate the swap with Sparks Parts presumably.

I bought the shocks in March from sparks parts, and I think they have a 12 month warranty so I want to get to the bottom of it before they expires.

    Appreciate any help/insights.

Find a used pro and "test drive" it and play around with it. See if your feeling the same or if it's different.

All seems normal to me. It was a big change going from Sr5 stock to pro. Lots more play in the suspension. Took a week to get used to the difference.

Get in touch with Sparks just so they have a record of the issue. This way it's documented. Get it in email.

If shock is not leaking it would be really hard to tell if shock is bad. You could remove both and see if there is any way to compress them yourself and see if one is easier to compress than the other. the trd off road shocks with spacer you originally had must of been noticeably stiffer so maybe you got too accustomed to that feel. I did read in another thread that someone felt the fox shocks did roll a little more cornering than the stock trd off road bilsteins.

Dealership close by had a ‘21 Pro hit the lot so I stopped by and test drove it today. The truck has the same “wobble” or rock I feel when I stop my truck, so I guess I can confirm what I’m feeling is normal.

Thanks for the idea. Put my mind at ease and saved a lot of trouble shooting over the next few months!

All is normal. A good off road suspension will feel “squishy” or “soft” compared to a normal or street set up. It’s made to absorb bumps and washboard. The real wake up is when you take it off road and drive fast. It’s a night a day difference on what you can do with a good off road suspension. You can add sway bars but it’s kinda defeating the purpose of the suspension because you will lose articulation off-road. But know what you want to use it for and drive accordingly. It’s a great suspension just know the positives and negatives about it. It’s an Off Road tuned suspension.

I’d argue that a good suspension should not feel “squishy” or “soft”, but should feel “firm” and “planted”.

Squishy and soft is unpredictable and less controlled.

Whether a sway bar is beneficial off-road has been long debated. In my opinion, it 100% depends on what your expectations are as well as what type of sway bar you’re using.

Higher speed through bumps, whoops, and corners? Sway bar, all day.

Slow trails with technical sections? I say a sway bars adds to stability.

Straight up rock crawling with a Tundra? Lol. You may be better without a bar, but I see much larger issues!

I have been noticing that my truck does this, too. I can't pinpoint when it started. I don't think it did it at all back when I responded in March '22. But I definitely notice a very slight rocking when coming to a stop, and when I shut a door, the truck rocks just a bit side to side. It still performs the same otherwise. Maybe I just didn't notice it before.

Mine was similar, noticed it one day and questioned whether it’d been doing it all along…

A year + later, truck/suspension is acting the same. Hasn’t gotten any better/worse and I guess I’ve gotten use to it, because it’s not as noticeable as it was when I first posted.

Just picked up my 2020 tundra TRD pro with 31k miles. Felt this along with vibrations so I had all my brakes replaced at the dealer as it turned out front brakes were worn and rotors were uneven but still experienced the rocking after I picked it up. so confirmed it wasn't brake related. Good to know it is normal due to suspension as I had a 16 tundra 1794 and never experienced it but for sure it has a different suspension. I was afraid my shocks were done
