Ya I can totally appreciate that. I am a CPA so definitely very against my own personal nature to replace these tires when I only have 1,300 miles on the truck :) But with the TRD lift that will be going on hopefully in the next couple weeks, I don't want to look silly either. I am hoping I can sell the tires at least and recoup something.

I think R20 is R20 whether it’s a standard or TRD wheel. Tires should fit both fine….

I may be incorrect however! Hoping others will have more educated wisdom for you ElJefe before you purchase your tires.

Personally I think 285/65R20 will fit your non TRD R20 wheels.

My concern was the width of the wheel more than the diameter. I know some tires are too thin/wide for certain wheels.

Well at least you can try the experiment this time to see if it’s all worth it to you! I kind of went through the same thought process and decided to invest in the truck now so I can actually enjoy owning it. It can be quite the rabbit hole though once you start… I don’t do any serious off roading or over landing or anything… so I think I will be happy to stop at the lift and tires.

Alright I wanted to post on the TRD Lift since my truck is getting finished today and wanted to give everyone some insight from an employee at a Toyota dealership. I must say the kit is very thought out and well engineered for the truck. Since my truck only has 800 miles on it I wanted to try and balance the lift with keeping safety features, scrubbing, added weight, warranty etc.

1). The manual calls for 15 hours of labor but our Master Technician (first install of the lift) was able to install mine in 7. He does need 2 hours today to align the front end, cameras, and dynamic cruise.
    2) With the 285/65/20 I was able to avoid any scrubbing (I think 35x12.5 would be fine to) and they allowed me to keep the pre-collision sensor. If your truck exceeds 4” of new height by law Toyota requires the dealer to disable the system. Unless the dealer is clueless this is non-negotiable as Toyota does not want to be liable if the sensors fail due to the new height.
3). Lastly while I did the 285’s for warranty purposes among other reasons it is up to the individual dealer to what they will warranty and what they won’t. That is why you see here on the forum some people get things covered under warranty and other dealerships say they won’t.

All and all just a great kit and the truck looks exactly like a Tundra should and by the way at some point in the future this is going to be a factory option which will make the decision easier for some folks. Feel free to ask any questions and I will post some better pictures when I pick the truck up and a couple hours. Especially some before and afters.

Very nice looking truck! Very helpful on the time required to install the lift. Seems everyone has been getting wildly different time requirements and costs varying by dealer. Which is probably expected with a brand new truck and brand new lift that no one has done.

Also good to know on tire size. I will be going the same route with 285/65/20 when I can get mine done. I am still waiting for Sparks to ship the lift... order placed over a week ago.

Haha right? My expectations were super high after you told me that… so it’s been a total let down having to wait so long. Incidentally I JUST an email today saying they received it and expect it to go out tomorrow. So hopefully about one week out. I need to call my dealership and schedule the install now…

@bballjames My kit is ordered (Foothills Toyota) but it’s on back order. Hoping to get an ETA by end of this week. I keep pushing my install appt at Rodland out. Tentatively scheduled for next Thursday at this point, but have a feeling I may need to shift it again.

@Paddockdrive what did the install end up costing you? BTW, saw a silver like yours on the freeway that seemed to have a lift and it looked amazing. Congrats and share more pics / ride opinions when you have time.

Ya I didn't want to schedule anything until I had a tracking number and knew when I could expect it. But now I also need to get some tires... weird crazy world we live in now where everything is out of stock and several months wait... (or if buying a Tundra in 2022, in my case the wait was FIVE MONTHS FROM THE DATE IT WAS BUILT - but no, I'm not bitter or anything that it sat at the Toyota factory for 4.5 months before shipping...)

So far the gas mileage dropped but that was to be expected. My cost as an employee for the install, alignment, mount and balance was just under $1K.

Also typically when a Toyota dealer orders a kit they should get it next day or that how it works at the dealership on orders before 3pm. Here are the comparison pics.

I know there are there are better performance parts for extreme off roading out there (Fox, King, etc), but I think this kit was designed by Toyota for the buyers that want the looks, some additional off reading capabilities and warranty while maintaining the factory drivability. Having done several different lifts on my prior Tacoma’s I just liked the way everything is provided in the kit and Toyota did a good job leaving no stone unturned when it comes to the geometry of the truck.

After some more miles it really doesn’t drive much different than stock. It handles the same minus the little bit of wider tires makes the lane assist gets a little more active but it can be turned off. Having owned KO2’s before I was familiar with how they ride and love that they are one of the quieter AT tires. I think about the only difference owners will feel when they do this kit is the tires because naturally E rated and above are going to drive differently than the soft tread they put on from the factory. All and all at the end of the day I wanted my Tundra to look like a 4x4 Tundra should look.

Truck looks awesome. In the front, did you do the middle setting on the lift?

@bballjames I went with the top setting. Wanted to keep as much lift in case I want to go bigger tires on the next round when the truck won’t have that much warranty left.

Agree - this is how the Tundra should look.
Love my truck, but the factory tires look silly…

I plan to do the top setting on mine, but going with 35s (Ridge Grapplers)

    @ryanwgregg that is correct.

@R2theD2 I was going to give the Nittos a try but our supplier didn’t have an ETA on when we could get them so I went with the KO2’s to avoid anymore delays in getting it done.

Good to know! I called to try and schedule a time to get my truck in to get this installed. Girl I have been working with was out on vacation, and had three calls go unanswered to other service techs before giving up and just sending an email. I am thinking it will be end of December of maybe early January before I get it in.

Anyone have any experience with the Goodyear Ultraterrains? I loved the Duratracs on my Land Rover, but can't get that in a 285/65/20. Plus I think they are getting discontinued maybe? Saw the Ultraterrains though and was curious if anyone has any experience with them. They might be a DiscountTire exclusive? I haven't seen them anywhere else.

I have a $360 credit with Rogue Offroad from a TRD Pro grille I returned (I decided to stick with my TRD OR grille). Now that I've had the TRD lift kit installed I'm not sure what to use this credit for. They have a number of ARB coils in stock, can you let me know which one would keep the same level as the Toyota coils but be beefier and a good upgrade? Or, there is a ton of other stuff. Thanks for any recommendations re what might play nice with, or even enhance the TRD lift

@Taikowaza I saw this on a Tundra on Instagram with the Covert Front Bumper they sell for $1k - not sure how intense the installation is, but he combined it with red tow hooks and it looks pretty amazing…link to his build below.

funny enough, all that work and I think he just has the Westcott 3/1

Kind of want to explore that for mine next year. Would be nice to have a winch and tow hooks. Had a buddy lose his TRX in the river mouth to the Pacific Ocean this year…I wasn’t at the scene, but my Tundra would have been pretty useless…not that it would have been recoverable anyway cause the tide came in so fast.

Now running Toyo OC AT3’s (285/65R20) on stock TRD rims and getting the TRD lift kit in early January.

Very hopeful it’ll clear the garage door - my research suggests I’m good by .75”.

Oh - and using a 3m wheel to remove the TRD decals this weekend.

Any rubbing with the 285/65s on the stock suspension? My lift arrives Tuesday but I don’t have any appointment for install yet. So I was thinking about getting the tires now so my truck doesn’t look like it skipped leg day once the lift goes on… a couple places told me that size won’t fit without the lift.

I was also told that size tire is “dangerous” because it very close to being too wide for stock rims. I don’t know if the TRD rims are wider than the platinum stock wheels? Seems like I have seen others running that size with no problems on stock wheels, so wondering if anyone else heard this.

Yeah, almost zero problems whatsoever. The only time I ever hear any (very slight) rubbing is up against part of the mud flap when I’m turning left and my front left suspension is slightly compressed - as in my driveway (downhill left turn). Again, it only slightly rubs if I’m going a little too fast.

    Awesome. Thank you!

Did they say anything about the width being too wide for the rim? Again, not sure if TRD rims are wider than platinum, but curious if they said anything about it.

Yeah, I’m not sure either on the width comparison between yours and mine - but no, Discount Tire said nothing at all about the rim width - in fact said how great they fit once installed.

I had their top guy help me pick out the size. This forum also massively helpful.

I love the size and the Toyo’s are doing great.

Spendy…if the $ didn’t matter (though of course it does) - would you do this over the TRD OEM lift kit?

Personally. I haven’t driven a 22/23 TRD Pro year. I assume Fox would create a stiffer ride?

1794 OR TRD Pro 6.5” bed Frankenstein sure sounds tempting but doubt I will change course! Ha.
