Agreed, unless the light is better than what i have.

Yes, @GNTundra a retro is in the game plan. You saw what i wanted, and it'll probably happen. I really need something that would produce some more snow visibility too. in the winter the swirly snow becomes a real challenge, one that i've never experienced until i moved here. I drive a ton of miles in very poor visibility and to get my kids home safe is what i'm looking for. A retro would help dark visibility, but snow is a completely different animal

The squadron looks nice. I wonder if the amber version throws the same light.

    A couple of things:

I've posted before regarding our weather up here. While we don't get the total annual snowfall that you are seeing (we're typically in the 150-250" range) I'd put our rate of snowfall up against anywhere in the world.
We have 3 types of snowfall:
    1- snowing, 2-blizzard, 3-lake effect whiteout.

I have the morimoto XB's and and I've tested them in 1 & 2. They PERFORM and are a significant improvement from stock and improve visibility. I've also tested them in rain and fog. Also improvements.
I haven't tested them in #3 yet. Lights really don't matter in those conditions except as indicators of your position for other drivers. You have massive amounts of snow falling, wind blowing it everywhere and the same wind lifting the snow off of huge fields and putting it directly in your line of sight. You drive(read: idle) in 4Lo, zoom all the way in on your gps, and pray the band shifts a little so you can resume normal 15-20mph driving in 4hi until you get home or out of the storm. I don't expect my Moto XBs to provide me vision in these conditions but I expect them to provide other drivers a more advanced warning of my position.

I'd spend some time adjusting the XBs before I tossed them.

Something to do next weekend Mark. Let's adjust the XBs to see if we can get them right.

I will get some photos of the Squadron Sports with the Amber snap on covers tonight. The snap on lens doesn't give the deep amber color of a true lens but you will at least be able to see what just the Squadrons do at night.

I lived in western Oregon for 13 years which equals.....FOG. Amber fogs really aren't too useful around here. Not much fog here in CO but Amber lenses can and do cut thru fog. I lived it, drove in it. Always used amber PIAA's over the years. It's all about placement, lens, bulb wattage. The lower the mount the better. There is a reason why amber fog lenses are used in foggy climes and not just for someone to see you. To me there is no such thing as white lens "fog" light. A misnomer IMHO. KC has published some decent specs and pics on their website. Their various LED driving lights seem to be pretty decent, but very pricey.

@lionix you wrote squadron pros, but the last pic says sport....?

Also looks like it would blind drivers. Do you use them strictly offroad?

I pulled the sports and put them on my BMW. The picture was just for reference.

I use them on road as highbeams too. Helps locate the deer.

I'll spend a little time adjusting my lights. Thanks for putting that out there.

I can certainly appreciate your suggestions, as i know the conditions you drive in. Nobody is debating the intensity of your driving conditions, i just know that i've had a better experience with some lights than i have others. There is absolutely nothing anyone can say in respect to light and snow that makes me believe there is no difference in quality of lighting. I don't care how many scientific studies are done, there is a difference in one light to another when it comes to fog and snow, and being more visible to other motorists isn't the only reason why people have fog lights. Maybe visibility to other motorists is the primary function, but I've had lights that provided better visibility for my own purposes as well.

Maybe my lack of understanding on how to position them is playing a role. What would be your recommendation on how to adjust the XBs that come fixed to the housing?

Also, this particular piece I'm curious about, "You drive (read: idle) in 4Lo." I understand the drive in 4Lo but i'm interested in the rest of the sentence segment. Also, I'm not debating how to drive in snow. Our snow here is much drier and you hold to the road better. I drive many miles a year and lots of them are in snowy conditions. I've also lived in NH, ME, NY, NC, GA, and SC. I know what wet snow feels like and i refuse to join the bandwagon when westerners tease easterners on how a few inches of snow cripples a state. There is a difference the people out here refuse to buy into.

Some suggestions on how to position your lights would be greatly appreciated if i'm doing it all wrong, which i'll eat crow if I've been proven ignorant. I've had to do it before

i did. there is nowhere near that cutoff line. there is nothing precise about my throw. After hearing you guys with positive experiences i'm wondering if it's not user error...go figure.

When i originally installed them they were pointed straight down so i cranked them to the equal amount of threads on both lights, and almost all the way up, which improved the throw, but nothing like yours.

I'm going to work on them tomorrow night if it stops raining and try to adjust them to a more reasonable position. Other than up and down can you adjust them in another manner?

Nope only up and down. You might have a defective set. Mine isn't that great but it's a lot better than stock fogs though. Is yours the 1st or 2nd gen? The 2nd gen is black and the 1st has some chrome inside.

Any possibility that they upside down? I don't think it matters with led,but who knows, just thinking. I know csuviper has the Baja design squadron r sport in driving /flood.if I recall he thought they where to bright for everyday use, I might be wrong though.

"Idle" in 4Lo means i put it in first gear and don't touch the accelerator and go real easy on the brakes. When you're on 2 lane roads with ditches on either side it's better safe than sorry in those situations. It can be pretty unsettling. Appreciate your understanding with our kind of snow.

As for adjusting them, here's what I did and posted in another thread:
2 screw threads showing above that black piece of plastic. https://www.tundras.com/threads/what-have-you-done-to-your-3rd-gen-today.713/page-242#post-239833

Also, I don't mean to insult your intelligence but have you installed them on the wrong side? There are right and left specific housings.

They are installed properly. I adjusted them properly. I didn't know if there was another adjustment that could be made.

I know how to drop in 4lo, I was just a little confused. I'll read through your write up after my coffee this morning to see if my process was similar, though I'm pretty sure it was.

Again, thanks for your help. I'm going back to the drawing board on leveling them and see if it makes a difference
