If you could make any mod to your 2014-2017 instrument cluster, what would it be?

I have been deeply involved and back in the Tundra game for 2 years and have taken a large instrest in modifications to the instrument cluster, controlling signals.

My question (kind of a poll) if you could change anything on your 14-17 Tundra cluster what would it be.

Weighing out ideas for a new project. My list:

    1) Change the Avg Speed on the display to an instantaneous speed readout. (Digital real time speed)

    2) Set the cluster backlights to come on with the key instead of just with headlight switch. The illuminated cluster looks so much better day or night

    3) Change display background from blue to a neutral grey or black. Somthing that still allows text/font to look good but not be on a blue background.

    4) Change background images or boot up images (maybe). Toyota or Tundra logos

    5) Potentially permanently delete TPMS light from coming on ever.

Curious to hear what you guys would want if anything.

Are there any secret settings or features to turn on, such as a digital tach or customizable message display?

Unfortunately no, from what I know it seems like a very bare bones programming in terms of features. Almost all the data to display images on screen is buried deep inside the chip storage and very hard to access

This seems to be a common complaint, the hope is a quick flash and change a few data bytes will fix this. Then as soon as the key comes on, the backlighting comes on.

+ another. My Tacoma lights were on with key on. Nice on cloudy days, with sun at back, or wearing sunglasses. I wrote a couple of emails to Toyota about this. They said to turn the dimmer/trip odometer knob. I wrote back and said I don't think you understand my complaint. They never did get it.

Having a speed display on the 2014 cluster would be grand! Instantaneous being the best option...I never cycle the screen to average speed...who cares :p

Also, I'm not sure if it's possible but living in the colder climates, having the temperature readout NOT on its own screen would be paramount! Is there any way to show that near the odometer/trip like on the later models with this cluster?

Transmission temperature is always a nice option when towing but using my phone with the Torque app is the only work around now...is this even an option? We NEED these features!

The inner workings are very complex unfortunately. The main memory houses all the code while sub memory stores the graphics, text, layout for the LCD.

I still don’t have a way to read the contents of the sub memory section.
This means it will be very hard to change any kind of formatting of LCD.

I think the current speed can be mapped to show where avg speed is but changing the word average to instant in “average speed” heading will be harder.

If you wanted an ambient temp upgrading to a 2015 program file in your cluster might work.

Transmission temp is there on the network and I think the cluster can see it. The microchip used in 2014+ only supports 6 stepper motor gauges so this is probably the main reason it was cut. You would need a 7th needle gauge. Formatting it to be shown on screen would also be difficult as you would have to figure out how to add and map data to new pages in factory display.

Having the directional controls on the steering wheel actually work the radio instead of the 20 different menus on the dash / instrument cluster.

Edit. Welp, I’m a dummy. Just re-read the title of the thread. 2014-2017 *not* 2014-2021. Disregard

Oil temp + pressure digital readout for each trans and engine oil in a display on center screen would be great, though I have a 2018. I might not "need" to know it but it would be good information to have. I don't need/want anything else to be different.
