Working in an independent repair shop we see quite a few RAMs for the notorious exhaust tick which often leads to extracting broken bolts for the exhaust manifold, depending on the year parts are back ordered and customers are obviously frustrated, we had one towed in the other day for the transmission shift knob being faulty and guess what the part is back ordered, luckily my shop foreman got it working (not sure how), yes they are known for lifter issues that can result in damaged camshaft as well.

Aside from that they have some great qualities like interior and ride comfort. My manager has one and loves it, but he is partial to the brand.

Yes all of this has been mentioned, but in the end every vehicle will have their issues, I suggest get what YOU like and never mind all the noise…. That’s what did

I actually had about 300lb in my truck bed on 1794 with regular shocks yesterday, and truck was much softer and pleasant over bumps and turned nicer than with empty bed! Without weight the ride is very crappy and boat like turning.

In waiting for my heavy duty ARE DCU Max camper shell to arrive in a few months so that will fix my ride issues.

Do the trucks with air suspension still have coils, or do the bags replace the coils?

Strange, they must be quite a bit weaker for the bump stop to be so close to the axle when the adjustment is off on the air system.

That was also my experience with the Ram and Tundra. Albeit the Ram was brand new but everything I touched felt solid and no creaks but the Tundra creaked almost every panel I pushed on.

That's great to hear. I'm hoping the 23 models have ironed out all the complaints people had about the 22s. I just have to find someone that has one on the ground so I can check it out before making my final decision

I'm hoping it's also because of the 8 ft bed that made it right like so. Yes I will definitely find a crewmax Tundra before I rule it out. Just hoping someone has one on the ground soon

I agree with everything you said. My heart tells me to get the Tundra but I will just have to find a crewmax to make sure the ride is something I can live with. The potential issues Rams have is definitely a huge factor that is preventing me from pulling the trigger right away. I will say the biggest thing that dates the Tundra is the analog gauge cluster. If they made that digital screen at least fit the whole center portion it would have looked a lot better

I don't plan on keeping the truck for long but the miles I put on will probably get it to 120k in well under 5 years.

I appreciate your perspective. My dilemma is I want to love the Tundra but I didn't. I hope testing out a crewmax limited/SR5 will change my perspective. If the Tundra is only slightly worse than the Ram I will pick it over the Ram in a heartbeat. The ride and quality in the SR DCLB just wasn't it

I believe all trucks behave like that. With load they all seem to ride like a Caddy lol. Fortunately I always have a decent amount of materials in the bed so maybe I should just discount what the truck rides like when empty.

Update: I test drove a brand new 2023 Tundra SR5 TRD Sport and was much more happy with it compared to the 2022 SR DCLB. Rides a lot nicer and the interior was much more well put together. I pushed all the panels and didn't get any creaking. No wind noise on the freeway or anything rattling on some bumpy city streets either. I think this solidified my choice for getting the Tundra. Btw thanks for all your inputs too. Love this community.

Did you try the TRD offroad?
I am trying to decide between offroad and sport,
I didn't like how SR5 TRD offroad rides, but I can't sport in my area.

I tried the limited and liked it, which doesn't make sense, because the consensus is that Offroad has the best ride, I guess it also depends on where I tested it, it was on a good road as opposed to the Offroad.
Limited and higher trims have hydraulic cab mounts, which like four more shocks improve the ride,
I wish I could find limited trd offroad , i think it should have the best ride, also not sure if hybrid improves the weight balance because of the batteries under the rear seats.

Oh you can find or wait for a 23’ limited trd hybrid like I did. I simply couldn’t be happier with so far (only 123 miles on it). After 3 previous tundras I am seeing the same excellent build quality as I always have. I was a little afraid I wouldn’t like the style but damn In person she is purdy

Yeah, in person, they look amazing,
so on your hybrid, do you feel it has a better weight distribution because of the batteries positioned closer to the rear wheels?

@dutch2112: do you mind telling us the build date of your 23 limited trd hybrid? I'm expecting our 23 174 TRD (non-hybrid) later this week and after reading the problems that others have had, am hoping that a 23 will be better build quality, especially the stupid interior stuff that a good number of Tundras have. Looking for some positive news on that front :)
    Thanks.

I have a very early 2023 build (purchased in October) and have no interior rattles or loos panels. It’s an sr5, so I would think your build will even be better.

Build date 11/22, no quality issues whatsoever everything is tight and no rattles creaks, no wind noise, the car play works amazing no cutting out at all. I only have 370 miles on it but wow I’m impressed. Though I would miss my 5.7 but nope and I’m driving like mrs daisy for break in

No I only drove a TRD Sport. I'm not quite sure how the TRD sport compares to the TRD OR in terms of if it's a stiffer or softer ride. Given it's a "sport" tuned suspension it should ride stiffer but I really don't know. However, the TRD Sport I drove did still feel a bit stiff but it was stable over bumpy surfaces and didn't jostle or jitter like leaf spring trucks so I was pleased with that. At this point I will be fine with a standard or TRD OR since I plan to get either the TRD 3" lift or something along those lines so hopefully that extra travel gives it a cushier ride. Build quality of the 23 I was pleased with. Very quiet on the freeway and no rattles at all during the whole test drive. Unlike the 22 SR DCLB it had the wind noise whistle and rattled like crazy over all bumps.
